Yeah, it's not like Barney and I are exactly prompt about testing and berating supplicants. This time, I will follow similar testing methodology. Additional consideration will be given to decks with both broken cards, but if they lose consistently, Cucho, then they may not necessarily win.

Lost ranks will be penalized by the addition of insults to the deck review on a one-to-one loss/insult basis.

Okay, I think it's between my Simic Ramp to Efficiency and Izzet Thopter Prowess now. Nothing against Requisitioner, but these are just super fun, and they're rolling over everything at R40. I just outraced a 15/15 trampling Hydra with the izzet! And ground through an Always Watching + Gisela with the Simic, without the benefit of a third land until about 20 cards in. I don't think I've lost a match with either that hasn't been entirely due to extreme mana issues. Barney and Soup, which of these would you rather play?

Thopter Prowess

Lands: 20
5 x Island
8 x Mountain
2 x Wandering Fumarole
1 x Westvale Abbey
2 x Sulfur Falls
1 x Inventors' Fair

I personally like the Izzet thopters more... but you got not removal whatsoever on either of them!

Nope, we're racing, evading, pinging and chumping all the way!

I think there can be an advantage to not running removal in aggressive resilient decks like these in duels. At the top of the ladder your opponent is probably slowing down to play around removal whether or not you have it in your hand, and you aren't left holding useless pieces if you run into control.

This no removal garbage is what cost me games last time! In this case go with the faster deck which is the thopter deck. Why would I want metalwork colossus if I can't get rid of his chump blockers?!

Also esperzoa seems weird without max copies of vial but ok, looking forward to trying it!

You use Whirler Rogues or Key on the Colossus of course!

But Esperzoa doesn't have to be a combo piece all the time; 3cc for a 4/3 flyer is a damn bargain, worth losing a token or bouncing a small artifact for upkeep. especially with all the vehicles, you can stack a crew on the bounce. Add an engineer in play and the downside is really minimal.

Blah blah blah... Barney and Soup, which of these would you rather play?

Hey, hey, hey! No one's paying me to think and make decisions based on merits! I'm paid for my articliolation and goodness of words and for my devastating good looks.

You make your own decision and whatever you pick, I'll belittle you for making the wrong choice.

Guys, I don't see a lot of Sly Requisitioner going on in these decks. It's almost like you all think it's a bad card or something.

That's because it is...

Anyway, I've submitted my deck. Now Barney and Soup (sounds like a brand name), be gentle because this deck is a never been played before virgin. So be gentlemen-like and treat it gentle with some tender loving care and the Requisitioner may just let you guys get to 2nd base. ;)

Hehe. Last night, I went back to the first version of my Requisitioner build and took out the Requisitioners and some of the junk I had in there to support them. It works way better now.

“Who Requisitioned This?!”

Incorrect, Harvey_PrimalTerrier. Barney and Soup sounds like local morning radio DJs who aren't quite funny enough to make it as small-town stand up comedians.

Flaky, can you do up all the submitted lists in one post? I am too absent-minded brave to go through and reliably find all the decklists.

Yes please Flaky when you're ready (no rush, I really hope MCG participates), make up all the decks in one official post that I can just print off.

And be sure to tune in every morning to Barney & Soup on CJAD 96.9FM. Helping you get up when you're down.

If you'd like to hear a piece of what our show sounds like, there's a small extract of our previous morning radio show we did together called Mikey & The Badger. Listen it, it starts at 14:08 when John Oliver even mentionned our show!!

I learned something while making this deck. Magic is not, in fact, a zero sum game. There's a limited amount of fun to be had in a single game, and this deck will ensure no one has any of it. I tried a few builds that included (read: tolerated) Efficient Construction, but none were "breaking" the card. The next logical step, then, was to make it effectively my only win-con.

Methodical Construction

Artifacts (19):
4 Renegade Map
4 Implement of Combustion
4 Alchemist's Vial
3 Filigree Familiar
4 Implement of Examination

Interaction (14):
4 Metallic Rebuke
3 Lightning Axe
2 Imprisoned in the Moon
1 Kozilek's Return
1 Radiant Flames
3 Unlicensed Disintegration

Enchantments (7):
2 Pia's Revolution
3 Efficient Construction
2 Thopter Spy Network

Lands (20):
2 Drowned Catacomb
2 Sulfur Falls
2 Dragonskull Summit
7 Island
6 Mountain
1 Swamp

Game plan: Use cantrips and Maps as required to hit land drops early, leaving them on the field where possible to enable Rebukes. Efficient Construction is critical - after it's down, cantrips make for a limitless supply of chump blockers. Spy Network functions as a slower EC for the most part, but its card draw leads to cantrips leads to more EC thopters.

Pia's Revolution can lead to early wins if Opp gets greedy and denies artifacts. Doesn't take many bolts to the face before Disintegrations and thopters can sneak in the last few points. If Opp opts out of the bolt-to-the-face program, the cantrips just come right back and make EC thopters on the way.

Lightning Axe does a nice job of making late game Rebukes look less awful, and Disintegration played well enough to justify the splash for it alone.

Lost track of the exact record somewhere around my third rum and coke, but I believe it was 8-6 with one loss due to a pretty egregious punt. Lots of room for improvement, but I kept the list pretty plain to make sure EC was the highlight.

Woah! He posted in the time it took me to write this reply. Yay!

You haven't truly lived until you've cast a single Renegade Map seven times in one game.

What were WotC thinking when they made the Requisitioner?

"Ooh! We have a really great idea for a card to waste an uncommon slot! It's perfect for those Duels guys that have a limited cardpool and rarity restrictions!"

"Yay for over-costed grizzly bears that have nearly unusable abilities and one in flavour key word. Those johnnies over at NGA will certainly have a blast trying and failing to break this one. I bet money on this!"

I've done that, and the same Vial too. Lol
