Didn't want to make a new thread for this one but I feel like it belongs here because it bloomed from a gruul deck I'd been playing. Playing Gruul monsters I started running into a couple limitations, some holes in the game plan. This is my attempt to remedy them.
Ordered as it appears in the deck builder
2 x Walking Ballista
3 x Gnarlwood Dryad
2 x Vessel of Nascency
3 x Fatal Push
2 x Sylvan Advocate
3 x Grapple with the Past
1 x Rhonas the Indomitable
2 x Tireless Tracker
1 x Reclamation Sage
3 x Unlicensed Disintegration
1 x Liliana the Last Hope
1 x Mindwrack Demon
1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
2 x Cut // Ribbons
1 x Arlin Kord
2 x Glorybringer
1 x Verdurous Gearhulk
1 x Ishkanah, Grafwidow
1 x Liliana, Death's Majesty
1 x Noxius Gearhulk
2 x Never // Return

3 x Swamp
2 x Mountain
3 x Forest
2 x Hissing Quagmire
2 x Smoldering Marsh
2 x Cinder Glade
2 x Woodland Cemetery
2 x Rootbound Crag
2 x Dragonskull Summit
4 x Evolving Wilds

Changes: - 1 Samut +1 Grapple

This is the list i'm playing right now :

2 x blossoming defense

3 x Lambholt pacifist
3 x Voltaic Brawler
3 x Harnessed Lightning
1 x Heart of Kiran

1 x Rhonas the Indomitable
2 x Tireless Tracker
2 x Prowling Serpopard
2 x Cultivator's Caravan
2 x Lathnu Hellion
2 x Collective Defiance
1 x Ahn-crop crasher

2 x Heart-Piercer Manticore
2 x Bristling Hydra
1 x Chandra, Torch of Defiance
1 x Arlinn Kord
1 x Hazoret The Fervent

2 x Glorybringer
1 x Nissa, Vital Force
1 x Verdurous Gearhulk

1 x Chandra, Flamecaller

3 x Aether Hub
6 x Mountain
7 x Forest
2 x Cinder Glade
2 x Rootbound Crag
4 x Timber Gorge

I'm not sure how optimal it is, but my experience online has been very positive. Extremely brutal mid-range deck. Won already 2 games off the manticore's ability to fling a caravan ^^

Elk, I'm back to yours after DJ let me down AGAIN :)

People don't know what Insult does and they are giving me free wins by not blocking right. I just got another t4 victory with two volcanic Brawlers and a Blossoming défense

18-3 now - had a bad loss to a Jund réanimation deck. He had both Kozy and Ulamog out on t6. It was brutal

Goodness gravy did someone have the nut draw. I'm pretty sure that's where you're supposed to flip the table and stomp out of the room.

The gif with the big dude reminds me of the first time I ever participated in a draft event. During Odyssey block, a dood who looked like he could be Flipper's twin brother assembled a pretty strong GR beatdown deck (would get threshold quickly and beat down with green monsters who buffed from that). Guy went all the way to the final match but lost. He was soooo pissed. Spent the next half hour bitching up a storm to the event organizer about how it was so unfair and his deck was The Best but he just got mana screwed and he should get 1st place because the winners deck lost more games in the run up bah blah blah. A grown ass man (oldest participant at the event) throwing a tantrum like a child. That was the 1st and last time I attended a MTG event at that shop.

On topic, I've been thinking about cutting Bloodrage Brawler from my list. I love him in the Rakdos Hellbent deck I run, but have been getting frustrated with him here. Been finding that I don't enjoy pitching resources away only to have opp remove him before I can attack. Some games he comes out early and gets 4-8 damage in which is sweet, but a lot of games he comes down early I find myself REALLY wishing I had the card back that I ditched when my hand is low and he died before doing anything.

How are others running him feeling? Still thinking he's Right?

I only like him in decks that want to pitch cards to the yard. He needs to be part of an engine to be good, imo. That's why I use him in my Grixis list, and why I'd never use him in Vehicles. He's good, but you have to have cards you want to toss - like Temper, etc... or cards you don't mind tossing like Scrounger. Put him in a deck with 4 tempers, and 4 alms, and I bet he does great, throw in some GY creatures, and I bet he rocks... in a pure linear Aggro deck, probably no bueno.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I've been feeling about him. I didn't have him in V1 but added him to V2 because I was inticed by T2 Bloodrage into T3 Charioteer - and also to help turn on Rhonas. But Rhonas doesn't need to be turned on T3 (several options to turn her on T4 when she can actually attack - plus only having 1 copy she rarely is in hand T3). And the only time I've gotten Bloodrage into Charioteer, opp had a 3 power dood on the board and I didn't want to attack into a 2 for 1 for a shocks worth of damage.

Just thinking he's not right in the build I'm trying to run here.

@Barney - infuriating is right. He'll have 1 game where I'm like 'yeah this is cool, I like this' and then 3 games where he screws me and I'm like eff this guy. It's at the point where I don't mulligan if I have 2 in opening hand anymore, but rather happily pitch the 2nd to the 1st.

It's just the cycle of seemingly powerful new cards... first we try to work with them... some prove easy, and join the meta, others don't and we stop talking about them... happens. I mean even great cards like reflector Mage see less play over time, so imagine what will happen with this one. :)

Regarding the table flips

If you don't want to watch the whole episode, fast forward to 6:10 for the part I was thinking about.

I don't know what it is but this deck just doesn't sit right Elk. When it goes off, it goes OFF!, but the going off just isn't happening as often as I'd like. I'd echo Barney's sentiments about flooding, that seems to be a frequent thing and I'm cutting a land for now, any swap recommendations? (just putting a shock in for now)

Brawler sucks big time when mulling to 6 or less, and that's been a frequent have to. I'll just check with you, what should be the ideal starting hand? Not just this deck, but I've been ending up with an unusual amount of 2 land or 5 land hands since release. There's something here, just not sure if the early stuff is quite down yet.

Just replace em with Lambholt Pacifists; the deck wants to hit later landdrops for the amazing 4 and 5 drops, and getting your brawler pushed is a huge waste of resources. It's not like this deck is pitching prized amalgams/scroungers to go off; or temper/alms people.

Pacifist works quite well with the majority of the cards in the deck, and it's a good wall vs the decks that can go even faster than you early on. The deck has enough haste and really powerful higher drops to catch up for the pacifist not being able to attack on turn 3 sometimes.

I mean let's see in my list : you can play pacifist t2, then t3 you have Rhonas, 2 Serpopard, 2 lathnu hellion to swing t3. Alternatively you can pass turn and flip him to cast harnessed lightning if you are being pressured. He still crews caravans and Heart of Kiran too.

Card I've liked the least in my list has been Khenra Charioteer, but maybe I haven't been getting lucky with him. That said, I wouldn't mind cutting him for something else at all. Ideally for a 4 power t3 play, but only brawler and bloodmad vampire fulfil that condition.
I think it's either Hungry Flames (deck could use a bit more remoal) or Ahn-Crop crasher, or 1 and 1.

Most surprising overperformer have been the manticores; they 've been responsible for about half my wins so far.

I mean, how does gruul overcome these cards :

toss lands at them? I don't get it :(

Elk, that video sucked and I went right to 6:10 and everything

Maggit, Charioteer + Insult is what is winning me the vast majority of my games.

BBB, What's the ideal starting hand? First of all I'm not sure about cutting a land cuz you want to be able considering a keep for some 2-landers. But an ideal starting hand would be:

3 land:
Forest
Mountain
Dual Land
Brawler (either one, preferably Voltaic)
Charioteer
Hydra
Glorybringer

Now the Hydra/Glorybringer can really be almost anything. I wouldn't mind at all Blossoming Defence and Insult/Injury, that's where my T4 wins comes from. But the above type of starting hand is very very common and is exactly what I want.
