Post subject:  X and converted mana cost effects

Hello,

I was told different things by different people and was hoping for a more definitive answer to my question:

I want to know if Dragon Fangs could come back into play from the graveyard if I play Mistcutter Hydra for 6+.

I was told by some people that x always count as zero regardless if the card is on stack, in graveyard, in battlefield or in your hands.

I was told by another person that the x depends how much you payed while the card is being cast and while it enters the battlefield and he gave me an example using the release notes for BFZ regarding Void Winnower and X costing spells cast for even or uneven cost.

Thanks,
V.

On the battlefield, Mistcutter Hydra's converted mana cost is always 1, so it won't trigger Dragon Fangs.

Ok, just to make sure I understand the ruling:

When Mistcutter Hydra is being cast for 6, while on the stack is counts as a spell with converted mana cost of 6. The moment it enters the battlefield, it counts as a 1 and wouldn't trigger the Dragon Fangs's enter the battlefield ability?

Yep! The hydra moves from the stack to the battlefield, then we check if it triggered any abilities. At this point, its converted mana cost is 1.

Thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated.

All the best,

One small point of clarification: if you have cast Mistcutter Hydra and chosen X = 6, then the converted mana cost of Mistcutter Hydras is seven (6+1), not six. The rest of this is correct.

I think he meant "is being cast for 6 total," so the inference is that X=5.
