Part of having your own forum? Having your own thread to get silly in and blow off some steam after losing that last draft. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves! |

Then the no talent person drew the cards I passed and beat me with them. |

Dropping by to invite all you MTGO people to check out the weekly deckbuilding contest I run called Johnny's Quest. This week it's all about the Vanguards to celebrate your new forum, so check out the thread here if you get some time and want to craft a silly deck, vote on the decks of last week, or at the very least, come say Hello. ~SE++ |

I played a 2-man momir sanctioned event versus a total beginner. He clearly did not know about momir strategies. I find it to be a bit of an ethical dilemma. Should I help him in game and risk losing my 20 pp? It is a small amount but I like winning. |

Cauchy I think it is a matter of deciding whether you are a teacher or a player first. And if 20pp is the cost, is it small enough or large enough to worry about? And if you help someone else win, will there be hidden dividends later? Do you care if there is? |

I wait until its over but then talk to them about it. Even things like them not seeing the ability on their own card that could of killed me 4 or 5 turns earlier. That is more so draft as I don't play momir that often. |

I care about the 20pp for sure. I am happy to help out my opponent during a casual game but in a sanctioned event not so much. I guess that I am worry about being arrogant. I have sometimes given out good advice out to people where it turned out that they did not need it at all I guess that in the future I could start a conversation on the topic once it becomes clear that I will win (or if I lost). That will also give e more clear signal on whether my opponent actually wants any help or not. |

I was playing today when the "unscheduled" downtime happened anyway. I hate that I have to browse through a number of twitter accounts before someone from Wizards finally announce that they are aware of the problem. Worth tweeted about it without the use of #mtgo or @magiconline, so there was no way of finding the tweet unless you browse his channel. It took another 30 min before the Official account recognized the issue. |

Its like they are getting sloppier and lazier as time goes by. Remember, part of the sale of the new architecture was that it is more stable and allowed for changes faster. Also allowing for changes that were "impossible" on the previous one. |

I have started playing some casual standard after I saw this deck making a 5-0 in a standard league. It is a cheap version of a BG deck. The more expensive version includes Liliana and a different mana-base. The overall cost of the deck is something like 3-5 tix. Creatures (30) 4 Blisterpod 4 Carrier Thrall 4 Sultai Emissary 4 Zulaport Cutthroat 4 Catacomb Sifter 2 Fleshbag Marauder 2 Grim Haruspex 2 Merciless Executioner 4 Nantuko Husk Spells (7) 2 Bone Splinters 2 Complete Disregard 1 Ruinous Path 2 Dutiful Return Lands (23) 4 Evolving Wilds 4 Forest 3 Opulent Palace 2 Rogue's Passage 10 Swamp Sideboard (14) 2 Despise 2 Duress 4 Feed the Clan 2 Ultimate Price 2 Complete Disregard 2 Gurmag Angler http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/343212#online I find the deck to be fairly straight forward. I could probably not pilot a more complicated deck anyway. Based on my experience in the TP room, I have a fair chance against many different decks. My main problem is against Red-decks with the ability to generate many small goblins and removal which can take out more than 1 of my creatures at the time. So how do I use the side-board in this deck? When do I side in the discard cards, and when do I use Feed the Clan etc. And then what do I take out. How lucky will I have to be in order to excel in a standard league? How can I most effectively improve the deck with some investment while maintaining the basic idea of the deck? |

Ok. So I joined a league and have now played what I guess is my first real constructed tournament matches. Momir doesn't really count as constructed even if my rating is somewhere around 1750 and that is only based on 2-man momir matches. So my first match-up (well, my second since I missed my first. Didn't know you had to accept the match for it to start) was against R/B Dragons http://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/st ... 130#online. 1-0 I lost my first game to Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury played with Dash. I could not remove it and I could not get my own game to flow. So a quick loss. However, surprisingly I then won the second and third round. My opponent was somewhat mana screwed and my creatures just lined-up perfectly. 2-0 My second match was against Azban Aggro. http://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/st ... 881#online I guess this is a hard match for me to win? But my opponent conceded already during game 1. I am fairly sure that it was not because he was struck with fear. 3-0 I played against UW Marshmallow Tutelage and a player I had just yesterday played in the TP room. http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/332705#online I won the match yesterday. But in the first game I made a capital error when I played all my creatures knowing that I would most likely face a Planar Outburst. Which I then did with none of my creatures transforming into anything. So I lost. I should have played it differently. And I did in the next two games which I then won. I side-boarded in some duress and creatures and took out the removal stuff. It worked perfectly. So now for the last 2 matches!!! |

4-0 So I am in-the-money now? In this match I meet Naya Prowess. http://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/st ... ess#online I won the first 2 games. It seemed like the Naya Prowess deck burned out a little too fast. I kept on blocking each attack until I had enough creatures or enough removal to take over and win. I side-boarded in a lot of quick removal. Last match! |

5-0 Yeah!! I went undefeated with my 3 tix deck in my first ever league! My last match was against an Esper Dragon deck (I did not see any Jaces). I had to mulligan in the first game and got totally smashed. My opponent wiped the board repeatedly and ended up with a lot of very nice dragons. In the 2 next games I side-boarded in the discard cards and the devoid removal. I took out some cmc 2 creatures, the graveyeard stuff, and the planeswalker removal. The Fleshback was extremely effective in keeping the road to my opponent clear and free of dragons. |

I guess that I was very lucky with the match-ups? And my opponents seemed to mulligan to 6 many times. The prizes are not super exciting. 2 boosters and 150 points plus the QP which I will never use anyway. Ohh well, if I just continue to go 5-0 I will not complain (....any further). |

Thanks! It took a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes. I liked the league experience, but I may be biased because of the unexpected success. People like me just cannot handle winning Now I am looking forward to the limited leagues. I am still open for suggestions on how to use the Feed the clan in my side-board..... talk about net-decking |

I would assume if there is some mono red or other agro deck in the format? I have no idea what the standard format is now. |

So I gave it another shot. It did not go well. I did a 0-5. Beginner's luck is very important My decklist is up at goldfish. It is 2.28 tix at the moment. And I actually used my Feed the Clan in another match with success against a RDW. |

One thing about QPs that I don't think has been discussed here is the changes for MOCS next year that will make QPs useful to us that don't play as often. They will carryover until you build up enough and then you will be able to join during a format your best comfortable with. A positive change I would say. (doesn't help this QP you won I imagine) Also, been wanting to play a league but haven't drafted enough over last year to build a standard deck. This one looks at least competitive so going to give it a try, so thanks for sharing. |

I liked that the QPs don't expire. It appears that they lowered the prizes due to this? I never really fully understood that entire system as I was not going to ever get into any of the events. I think pauper and modern now have leagues. I am tempted to do a pauper one. |
