Found this in the 12/16/15 MTGO Build Notes on TUMBLR :

Player Blocking

After today’s downtime, players will be requested to provide some information when blocking another player. This report will be visible only to the appropriate Magic Online teams and will be used to help identify toxic behavior within the community.

So if you really hate someone on mtgo you can now get your whole clan, secondary accounts, freinds and bot network to block them for "toxic" behavior which may result in them losing access.
Happy days!

Ok, now I know why I couldn't find the build notes this week. They just decided to not post it on the website, WHERE IT HAS BEEN POSTED TO EVERY WEEK FOR A LONG TIME NOW, and just throw it out in a Tumblir. At least couldn't they tell us in the prior week's build notes that this is where they were going to post it, or would that require a week of forethought, something this management team is not capable of. I guess I am the idiot for expecting to find software build notes published on the website of the company that owns the software, not a 3rd party messaging site.

And, I agree, which side of the toxic behavior are they going to uncover more of: 1. players that it was probably designed for that are toxic to play against (I just concede and move on so they don't really bother me), or 2. the revenge factor when, as stated in post above, a player gets butthurt over losing and gathers all clans and friend to try and get the other player banned.

It seems like a waste of my time. If I find someone annoying then I block them. If I encounter toxic behavior I report it.

(Imho) Behavior is only 'toxic' if it violates the CoC. And in that case there already exist a reporting mechanism.

I think they are working on destroying what remains of the community. This is just another step, essentially removing the ability to casually block people for any reason at all. (Having a bad day, don't want to see their chatter, don't want to be traded to, don't want them pming with hate, etc all are valid imho.) Having to give a reason, essentially turns it into an offensive behavior report which means those who use the feature are doing so mainly hoping they can get their target inconvenienced or banned. *shrugs* It's really a non-issue anyway, so few people even use the chat feature now. Usually when I say "hi gl and hf" I get crickets and that's been true for a while now.

On the flip side, it may be smarter now to just not chat at all, since even hello can offend some people.

I think this could be a good thing for the community if there was a still active, chat-using community, and provided that the MTGO team has some tools to properly investigate abuse claims (access to chat logs etc.)

I am some people.

Despite having a lot of experience with it, I am not very good at handling a lost match. I tend to get salty. Maybe that is why I like playing online. Then other people don't have to witness my frustration. The most common reason for why I block people? They said 'Good Game' in the chat. For me it was not a good game :)

Anyway 'blocking' people had no impact before the new feature unless you played casual games?

are you sure they are using blocking to dole out bans and not just to gather information about behaviour patterns?

The voice of reason. But unfortunately, the online team have never been known to act in a reasonable fashion.

Certainly not sure as there is no way to know what WOTC is thinking/doing at any given moment. They have gone to great lengths to buy an enigmatic shield. And it works. We have no clue what they are about. We do know that various members of the "community" have continuously expressed dissatisfaction with their stated policies and have been ignored down the line. I expect this to be no different and honestly it probably will have no impact whatsoever on most of us except to make it harder to block people casually for things like Cauchy's objection to "Good Game."

Does anyone else read the title as "new player" hate feature? As in a feature for pushing hate onto new players.

>"new player" hate feature

Hmmm, did not think of that. Not what I intended :)

I did consider what I use my blocklist for. Mine is mainly full of bots.

Perhaps wotc might take the feedback on those ripoff bots and do something about it? Unlikely.

Here's the feedback guidelines I was thinking of using.
TIMEWASTER : No stock of advertised cards
THIEF : Failed to retain bot credit
RIPOFF : Offered a few crap rares for my top mythics
