A new article by Worth

I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss various statements made by Worth in his look back at MtGO in 2015. I know we used to have fun commenting (criticizing) his articles on the forums once upon the time, so maybe we could continue this tradition?

Two things stand out to me: his nod to the beta testers, and the Tempest Remastered comment. And the off-hand comment about the discontinuation of some constructed formats.

I really liked the foil upgrade. I am a person who when foils originally came out I didn't like them but have come around somewhat. The new foiling online was much appreciated by me. I pray they can give me a binder collection screen but more likely will never see it again. :(

We've continued to up our development transparency through the process of maintaining the Bug Blog and updating MTGO.com with weekly articles, as well as staying reachable through social media. It's easier than ever to provide feedback to us through Reddit, Twitter, email, and the new Magic Online Tumblr. For those of you who've submitted feedback through any of these channels, we appreciate it and want you to know it all gets read, even if we can't personally reply to all of it!

Yet they closed their message board. They and there "transparency" can go pound sand.

We experimented by releasing Tempest Remastered earlier this year, which did not perform as well as we'd hoped. It is pretty clear to us that this type of "remastering" of older sets isn't the way most of our customers would like to experience Magic Online, so we're putting our efforts elsewhere in the future.

So Masters Editions did well, Vintage Masters did amazing, the first Modern Masters went amazing and the second went well. I liked Tempest Remastered but I think their biggest flaw is they didn't make sure all the money cards were in there. Nor was the important card at enough intervals. To me they got the wrong message. This is shows they put off a Mercadian Masques Remastered. Though looking at Wasteland prices it seems that Tempest Remastered did a pretty good job of what it was suppose to. I think this part of his article really frustrates me to no end.

As to the TPR comment I liked the set, I think it was a fine effort and people did appreciate it but a lot of its audience had already jumped ship or was on hiatus. The thing about the Wasteland price is that I don't think they care about that. And what they do care about gets confirmed by their own biases and faulty data collection. (imho of course)

You know how I feel about them removing formats.

As to transparency, the old phrase "actions speak louder than words" applies here. They have proven untrustworthy and lacking in integrity. I will only believe what I see from them in the future.

So you are losing trust in a group that within a month closes a forum they promised about a year ago will always be around and also gets rid of a format they promised a year ago will always be around? Seems you are being completely unreasonable. Forever is only a year.

I think they care about Wasteland (and Liliana and new Jace) price. Some prices are a serious barrier to playing constructed, and, as an example, many more people would play Leagues if the decks were, say, half price compared to what they are now. They should care about that, since high secondary-market prices of format staples bring them no custom, and lower the number of people playing constructed.

And on the subject of Leagues: do any of you play in them? Are they fun? How serious a deck do you need to do well, say, 3 out of 5 or more wins?

While reading this article, all I could think of was the Seether song line "Your verbal defecation, I can't wash away.... "

I love how they paint mistakes as "improvements."

And here we go: the first quarterly playoff event participation promo is Liliana of the Veil. The event is invitation-only, with an attendance cap of 1028 players.

And will that put even a small dent in Lily's price after a month or two have passed?

Heh. I don't know. But it's certainly not a coincidence that the first participation prize for the new, highest-profile tournament on MtGO is the most expensive modern-legal card. They monitor secondary market prices, and they will take steps to bring down the prices.

If only they had reprinted LotV and JtMS in the core sets they were planning on printing them in. The prices wouldn't be as big of deal.
