there's so much removal in the deck already and Anger nonbos with several cards in the deck. I just never liked having it in my hand at all. The sparkmages do some serious work against the decks where Anger would make a difference. So you don't need them at all. Like I said, the times I did end up needing them, I was going to lose that game anyway.
You gotta mulligan really smart with this deck too. You shouldn't need Anger. I'm not saying that Volcanic Geysers are the best replacement or most optimal, that's just what I chose for the instant speed
So your replacement to Anger is Geyser and the reason for the change then is the nonbo for several cards in the deck. Since you also bring up another point of instant speed I'd make a suggestion (after a rant
).
I still don't agree with the
Bolt of Keranos inclusion. In most of the decks, it appears there are only 3 copies. That's 3 chances of drawing the card for sorcery speed scry. If you happen to draw all 3 of them, that's only 3 scry chances. There is no draw in the deck so I'm assuming; on average, you hit 1 of these cards a game? Now with Charmbreaker in the list, I relent that this could vary but I'm guessing if you have a devil on the table and you're getting use out of it, you're already winning and the scry isn't that valuable (corner cases need not apply).
This isn't a debate of the strength of scry. Scry is useful/great and with enough of it, scry will make a huge difference filtering through a deck. Unfortunately our pool doesn't have a lot of scry options (outside of blue) that make it so you can filter through your deck. My point is how much of a difference is 3 scry chances ON AVERAGE going to make over a decision you can make at instant speed? Even if you have/draw all 3 cards, that will only filter 3 times. That's great (again to be clear, that's not the debate) but it's value; in a burn deck, isn't as great as the instant speed choice (which burn decks are typically founded on).
So short form for the TL;DR - in a burn deck, instant speed is more valuable than sorcery even if the sorcery card has the upside of scry (or in this deck/case, instant speed is more valuable than scry).
So to go back to Barney's change, if you were to replace the 3 Bolts with Thunder, you'd have your additional instant speed removal. Would you still need Geyser then? If you feel that Anger is such a nonbo for the fodder portion of the deck, then I'd go back to the suggestion of trying the Paragon(s) in that slot.
