Card Type Matters (not subtype, I'm talking the stuff Tarmogoyf cares about)

How It Works

We'll make one card at a time. Each round, we vote on the winner. You can't vote for yourself. The winner picks a rarity and writes a criterion for the next round. The person who sets the criterion can't make a card for their own round, but they can vote for the winner.

This is the thread for cards.

I'll set the first criterion:

Red Rare. Create a card that showcases which card type red cares about the most—or is the most interested in hosing.

20/39 Red Cards

Blitzkrieg --
Sorcery (R)

Blitzkrieg deals 15 damage to target permanent, then gain control of it.

Illpyre Djinni were clever in their theivery. They burn everything they could, whatever was left was theirs.

Stoke the Sun :x::r::r:
Sorcery

You may sacrifice a red permanent with converted mana cost X rather than pay ~'s mana cost.
If an enchantment was sacrificed this way, at the beginning of your next precombat main phase, add X mana of :r: to your mana pool.
~ deals X damage to target creature or player.

Give to the sun, and the sun gives back.

Arcane Inferno |
Instant (R)
~ costs less to cast for each instant and/or sorcery card in your graveyard.
~ deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures and/or players. If a creature dealt damage this way would die this turn, exile it instead.

Does anyone else think it's weird that red loves sorceries and blue loves instants most of the time? Like, counterspells and trickery, I guess, but it seems out of character for red to be the color of slow, deliberate spells.

Pilot-Flame Tender
Creature - Human Nomad (R)
As each instant spell you cast from your hand resolves, exile it, then copy the last card before that exiled with Pilot-Flame Tender and cast the copy without paying its mana cost.
Fire is valuable in Frostwynd. Most tribes keep one lit perpetually, looked after by a trusted few.

Destroy target artifact. If that artifact's controller has an activated or triggered ability from that artifact, counter that ability.
Every gear stops moving eventually. Some just require more fire.

I've got red=Sorceries as my type-matters angle.

Magnitude Mage
Creature - Human Wizard (R)
: Magnitude Mage deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the total converted mana cost of all Sorcery spells on the stack.

(Usually there will be no more than 1 sorcery spell on the stack at any given moment, but if you find a way to get more, more power to you!)

Think of them as the spell equivalent of a catapult.

Sparksigil Apprentice
Creature - Human Wizard
When ~ enters the battlefield, return target sorcery card in a graveyard to its owner's hand. ~ deals damage to that player equal to that card's converted mana cost.

Mown's is just too strong when x spells count X as 0. Which red has aplenty, and this just becomes a super-under costed Anarchist. I vote echo.
