Card Type Matters (not subtype, I'm talking the stuff Tarmogoyf cares about)

How It Works

We'll make one card at a time. Each round, we vote on the winner. You can't vote for yourself. The winner picks a rarity and writes a criterion for the next round. The person who sets the criterion can't make a card for their own round, but they can vote for the winner.

This is the thread for cards.

I'll set the first criterion:

White Common. Create a card from the sunny side that cares about enchantments.

23/39 White Cards

Aura Absorbtion --
Enchantment (C)

Whenever an enchantment would go into your graveyard from the battlefield, you may exile it. If you do, gain 2 life.

Sunbeam :1::w:
Enchantment Creature - Elemental
~ has flying as long as you control another enchantment.
2/2

I think enchantment creatures are necessary if you want a "type matters" theme to actually work in limited.

Sandshift Guide
Enchantment (C)
Whenever another creature or enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, Sandshift Guide becomes a 2/2 Elemental creature with vigilance until your next turn. It's still an enchantment.

Overlap between the factions is nice. Enchantment-heavy decks need some access to creatures so they can actually interact with things.

I like enchantment creatures with vigilance. I think it makes them feel more enchantment-y.

I think enchantment dudes should be r/b. Thus white should be enchantment hate/artifact.

Encapsulate :1::w:

Destroy target enchantment. Put a Relic artifact token onto the battlefield. (Relics have no abilities.)

The mechanical entities of Starstill computed long and hard on their magical counterparts, but could not comprehend them. Eventually, they stopped trying.

Oh hey! I never connected the Set Like No Other contests with these "Starstill" posts that have been popping up lately. Guess I'm going to have to pay attention to these.
Hmmm. In a type matters set, lots of cards are going to have multiple types. Does that mean that we should hold back a little on the Disenchant-type cards at common? I suppose we also have to figure out each colour's relationship with the different card types.
Also I assume that ven winning cards will be in a state of flux right? Like if we decide what kind of creatures populate starstill we can always go back and edit creature types?

Spreader of Gifts
Creature - Human Cleric?
When ~ enters the battlefield, if you control an enchantment, put a 1/1 white Bird enchantment creature token onto the battlefield.

Yes, flavor can always be edited later. That said, I'd rather have it be that the mechanics of each card is set in stone until we start playtesting the cards.

I was basing on Theros costs, where the only instant-speed enchantment removal in white at common costs 3 cmc.
I guess I can put it at 2.

Post subject:  Re: Starstill – White

The cost of common enchantment hate is warped in Theros, because it's an enchantment set. Erase and Aura Blast are better examples

Well, it seemed as though this set was looking to become at least half-way enchantment.

Post subject:  Re: Starstill – White

I'd cost enchantment hate, and artifact hate a little higher than normal, but not as high as in Theros.
