Card Type Matters (not subtype, I'm talking the stuff Tarmogoyf cares about)

(I posted this in the main forum, but I thought it made sense to post it here, too, in the Community Sets subforum where Starstill grew up.)

Starstill began over seven years ago, in 2014, with the thread A Set Like No Other. The idea was to use the format of Fakeartist's A Contest Like No Other, where the winner of each round would set the prompt for the following round, all the way to the completion of a set. It took all year, and after thousands of posts and over a million views across all the threads, the initial design was finished. We playtested it, we discussed the cards, and we had fun.

The set lay dormant for a long time until I decided to come back years later to finish it up. I cut a lot of problematic cards, and together with the people of the community, we rebooted the contest to fill in the gaps. We ultimately ended up with 30 more cards than we started with.

We've created our own subforum, designed well over a thousand cards, voted, compiled, playtested, and developed. I can now finally declare with confidence that the set is finished.

Here are the 275 cards in all their glory:

Special thanks to:

• chinkeeyong, for uploading the set to the NGA Database and coordinating the playtesting on Cockatrice

• LilyStorm, for starting us off with the flavor

• Mown, for designing the first card

• Shazzeh, for designing the most cards of anyone besides myself

• Knight Otu and EpicLevelCommoner, for helping out on this final push for the last 14 cards

• and most of all to TPmanW, for setting the mechanical prompt and remaining passionate about this project the whole way through.

<3 to you all, and to everyone who helped see this project through to completion.

Has anyone done a proper print-up of Starstill using AI or otherwise-sourced art? Also, what's the ideal means of playing it -- draft, cube, battlebox, precon decks, or what?

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. I was so excited that I couldn't figure out what to say.

We finished Starstill right before AI really took off. We had a user named Kithkin_FieldMarshal who found a lot of good art for us, but an artist named David Demaret came by and told us to stop using his work, so after that we pretty much didn't—I mean, I was going to ask people directly if we could use their art, but it was one of those things that just never ended up happening. This was all 10 years ago, you understand. I got into a political argument with KFM on Facebook and he departed from the forums.

I would totally be psyched about printing Starstill up. It was designed for Block Constructed before that stopped being a thing. Our adventures with playing it can be found here in the Playtesting and Development thread. All that was done on Cockatrice.

I'll post a thread in the main forum seeing if there's any interest in getting some playtesting done again.

How did you find us, may I ask?
