To that end, it's important to me that people skim through this changelog and tell me if they have a problem with any of it. If you do, please say something! So I've decided that in lieu of a complicated Veto system, I'm just gonna have this be the thread where people suggest changes, and unless I (or anybody else) objects, it'll go thru. The process wherein anyone can skim thru the changes I made in the topic-post of this thread and point out anything they don't like is definitely still in effect. chinkeeyong wrote:
TPmanW wrote: Could we knock the cost of Aloise's ult down to -5? It requires a fair bit of setup (or good luck) to realize its potential, so the opponent should have plenty of time to interact with the combo even before Aloise comes down. TPmanW wrote: Everbloom Sapling says "pedal" instead of "petal". Not the sort of change you're looking for, but it jumped out at me. All these changes shall be applied to the final spoiler. ParadOxymoron wrote: Another problem I've noticed is that Consortium Customs and Mist Weaver as listed in the spoiler above are both 4 CMC 2/4s with effects that are far too pushed for Common, methinks. Consortium Customs got a little crazy with the Clue buff, and I bumped Mist Weaver to 4 in an effort to cull the 1 CMC slot, but I may have gone too far—now, even though there are still a few 1 mana instorceries, there's actually not a single 1-drop creature, which may be a problem. Plus, it somehow felt way more common as a 1/1/1. I'm inclined to revert the change I made to Mist Weaver and simply bump Consortium Customs to Uncommon. Here's what I'm going to do, after deliberating about this for longer than is healthy:
• Bump Consortium Customs up to uncommon, and make it an unwieldy /3/6 with the same effect, to prevent it from mucking up limited too egregiously. This way, white needs a 4-drop at common—currently, Banish is its most expensive card it has at common, and none of its common creatures cost more than 3—but I don't think this is the card to do it with. White should really have to work for its draw engines. When Knight Otu made a criterion to add more Engrave to White, I opted to add Glyph of the Guardian back in at common this post. However, with the hindsight of adding YingLung's Corona Halo to the set:
Corona Halo
I have a clever little inversion for Glyph of the Guardian, bringing it closer in line with the intent of storyteller's original design: Warding Runes — Instant (C) Destroy target attacking or blocking creature. If you cast Warding Runes from exile, destroy target attacking or blocking creature with power 2 or less instead. Engrave "Only those with empty eyes, full of Elori's light, may enter." —Archway inscription This is cute because while Corona Halo increases its cost for a bonus, this gives you a discount for a restriction! It also trades perfectly with other engraved Golems, but it's made even cooler by how White is the only color in this set that has the engraved version do anything differently from the base-cast version. I'm thinking that could be the main way we set White's take on engrave apart. Just a wording thing, but—I want to change Chronicler Sphinx's terminology to make it a bit more clear what it's doing, from a mechanical perspective both in the sense of what the individual card does, as well as what role it plays in the set at large: "When Chronicler Sphinx enters the battlefield, you may exile any number of instant or sorcery cards from your graveyard. For each card exiled this way, put a 2/2 colorless Golem artifact creature token onto the battlefield. When that creature dies, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost." —> "When Chronicler Sphinx enters the battlefield, you may exile any number of instant or sorcery cards from your graveyard. For each card exiled this way, put a 2/2 colorless Golem artifact creature token onto the battlefield with that card engraved on it. When that creature dies, you may cast the engraved card without paying its mana cost." Also, I'm going to make Everbloom Sapling and Shadebough Storyteller into enchantment creatures to help Green turn Mastery on. Lastly, I want to change Reification of Elori from a /4/7 to a /4/6, for three reasons: one, I'm bumping Consortium Customs up to 7 and as of yet don't have anything in 6; two, it feels more like an ineffable force of all-consuming light with the quad-W its cost from a flavor standpoint; three, I think it makes it feel a little bit more powerful. |

A couple more things that jump out at me: Hellish Snowstorm seems a little intense for a common instant. CKY recommended raising the cost to , but I'd be more inclined to make it a Sorcery. And speaking of removal, Dig a Grave (an uncommon, no less) is freaking intense. On the one hand, I don't think Wizards would ever print it, but on the other hand, I think that since this is fantasy fantasy card creation rather than real fantasy card creation, we've a licence to go a bit nuts. I'd suggest bumping it up to rare, but then it has too much overlap with Gravefall. What do y'all think? |

Dudibus wrote: Maybe make Dig a Grave a mastery card? If you have mastery, destroy target land as well? I like this! If I may throw a little twist on it, though: Dig a Grave — Sorcery (U) Destroy target creature or target land. Mastery—If you control an artifact, a creature, and an enchantment, instead destroy target creature and target land. It is only in Direholm that the people bother to bury their dead. In Illpyre, any monument to the fallen would just as soon be swept away by the shifting dunes. Also, regarding Consortium Customs, my Wonderweaver that just won now has too much overlap, as they are both thicc uncommons that can investigate multiple times. This set only actually has one vanilla creature—Sunfury Haint—and if we could just keep Consortium Customs at common but make it vanilla, it would save me a lot of trouble. Dutiful Servants provides the perfect body, further befitting since it has a larger toughness to counterbalance the Haint's larger power. Also, TPman suggested here that we make it a Loxodon, and that was never really followed thru on, but I think it's a great idea. For the flavor text, I'm going off of his post here: Consortium Customs — Creature — Loxodon Soldier (C) Both the title and the mission of the once-noble Inter-Hemispheric Trade & Relations Consortium have foreshortened: Where once it sought to foster economic growth between the world's halves, now it is little more than a glorified tollboth encircling the plane, whose officers line their pockets off of anyone who tries to pass. 2/5 Also, some new flavor text for Consortium Engineer: Cyri had always thought that the best part of working for the Consortium was all the cool stuff she found in holdings. Though she had to admit, the pay was nice, too.

Ok, one last thing for Consortium Customs: It occurred to me that it should just be ETB: investigate. Compare Amphin Cutthroat -> Drownyard Explorers ≅ Dutiful Servants -> this. Flavor text reverted to the original version to make room. Mist Weaver's name changed to Mistweaver, because I kept mistyping it. A typo: Seal of Churned Earth was supposed to have its mana cost upped to along with the buff. I neglected to transcribe this. Viashino Warchief: I neglected to change the first instance of Intimidate to Menace, only the second. Ragespark Igniter moved from Uncommon to Common. Red keyword shuffle: There's too much haste, not enough first strike. Tinderbranch's haste -> first strike. Gonna change flavor text references of Seron to Seliron, cos it sounds more feminine and Aloise and Anjomeddon are the only named women in the set. The attribution on Sandquake changed from "Oldest joke in Illpyre" -> "Zafar, to Seliron" The Faceless Herald made into an Enchantment Creature to go along with all the raceless (i.e. job-only) creatures being enchantments. Changed Starstill's flavor text to be a summary of the set's plot: "Glacinorak and Anjomeddon labored for centuries to leave the world to their liking: one half a frozen wasteland, the other a barren hellscape. And so they did—and ever since, the rest of us have borne the consequences, trapped in an astral moment for all perpetuity."

I've added all the cards designed for the Reborn contest to the spoiler. As discussed here, I've changed Dudibus's Opaline Desire to give other enchantment creatures you control +1/+1 instead of reducing the cost of enchantment spells you cast by , and also upped its cost from to . The other cards remain unchanged. I also updated a bunch of old wording conventions, namely "put... onto the battlefield" -> "create", "add to your mana pool" -> "add", "his or her" -> "their", and to where applicable. Check out the full spoiler here: Starstill 2.0 |

Post subject: | Re: Changes |
Changed the wording on Soulclash Shaman to: Create a token copy of target creature under the control of a player other than its controller. Those creatures fight each other. Pretty sure that works? I'll run it by the Card Clinic. Edited the flavor text of Astral Observatory from Aloise smiled. I had just occurred to her that by charting out the starmap she had "connected the dots". to: Aloise smiled. By charting out the starmap, she had connected the dots in more ways than one. Changed the wording on Highsun Glare-Wielder as Knight Otu suggested here. There was no -X/-0 effect in Blue, so I replaced the unblockable effect on Consortium Engineer with one (and made it a 1/3) since it already had a lot of overlap with Griftgear Beguiler and Guide of Lost Caverns. Swapped rarities of Guide of Lost Caverns with Fickle Fogling so that I could give Guide of Lost Caverns hexproof. New flavor text for that: "As the stalagmites stretched out further than the eye could see, it was impossible not to feel that something incredible had happened here." —Bahraz's journal Also made Lightbearer an uncommon because it's important to me that Fickle Fogling, and Stonelance Smith be a horizontal cycle Renamed Forgotten Dream, Dreamwraith, so that it sounded more like a creature. Spirit -> Wraith Incarnation Lowered the equip cost on Shatterspear Insignia from to . The idea is you play it on turn 4 and follow it up turn 5 with a curved-out equip -> Frostblight Blessing, or just cast it all at once on a 5-drop for . Stuck "Sacrifice Plague of Locusts: Target creature gets -4/-4 until end of turn." onto Plaugue of Locusts. idk if this is the right call, the card felt kinda weak tho. Made Giltfang Matriarch a 1/3 to distinguish it from Young Pyromancer. Probably a mistake as that was already arguably the best 2-drop in red's history but eh i figure it's a custom set, we don't have to worry about Legacy |

• Maraka's Claim and Maraka's Reclaimation… Confused wrote: Maraka's Claim - Sorcery Choose one - Destroy target artifact; Or, destroy target enchantment; Or, destroy target creature with flying. Dudibus wrote: Marakas Reclaimation Sorcery (C) Destroy target artifact. You may play an additional land this turn. Before the Starstill, Maraka owned this world. It simply waits to own it again. …were frighteningly similar cards. I opted to cut Maraka's Claim, since it's been power-crept since its design by Broken Wings. I replaced it with: Thorned Strike — Instant (U) Choose target creature you don't control. Each sylvan creature you control deals damage to it equal to its power. (Treefolk, Forests, and enchanted permanents are sylvan.) A new take on Moonlight Hunt. • I put Engrave on Worldscour. This is because White didn't have any Engrave at Rare. I also thought it made the card an interesting showcase of the set's two primary mechanics, while highlighting the tension between Engrave and Mastery by having the latter only trigger if you're filling the artifact and creature slots by something besides the token. • I switched the rarities of Mind Shivers and Shamebearer. Mind Shivers is just a worse Taigam's Scheming, so it doesn't really make sense at Uncommon, and since I'd moved Lightbearer from Common to Uncommon (so that it could be in a diagonal cycle with Fickle Fogling and Stonelance Smith,) I wanted Shamebearer to have that same rarity. • Some P/T changes: Wanderer of Illpyre is now a 3/1, and Wanderer of Direholm is now a 1/4. Stonelance Smith got buffed from 3/1 to 3/3, since the costing on red first strike creatures has shifted so dramatically in the years since I designed it. |

On Galvanic Crystallization, it should specify creature you control; otherwise it's MV 1 hard removal that dodges indestructible in any U deck without artifacts. |

These changes all sound good to me. |

For Galvanic Crystallization, how about: Galvanic Crystallization — Instant (R) Target creature becomes a colorless artifact until end of turn. If you control it, it's still a creature and has base power and toughness equal to the number of artifacts you control. That's a bit complicated, so I'll bump Icy Whisper back down from Rare to Uncommon to make room for it at Rare. |

Knight Otu's colorless submission got me thinking… Does anyone have a problem with it if I add a reprint of Sword of Fire and Ice to the spoiler at Mythic? |

I wouldn't mind. |

It fits nicely into the set, do I see no reason to exclude it. |

• Restored Viashino Suncaller to its former glory. • Cut Shamebearer. • Added Sword of Fire and Ice. • Updated "mill" and "mana value" to modern wording. • Updated Metalsheen Mancer's wording to scry. • We somehow ended up with an extra green card. Cut Abundant Growth, as it was a reprint and we already had a common aura at that enchants a land in Breath of Maraka. To keep the total number of cards the same, added: Steelbark Simulacrum — Artifact Creature — Treefolk (C) The treefolk used to rule the land that became Direholm. Now, in the frozen wastes, their replicas are all that remain. 5/7 This Hexplate Golem reprint with a relevant creature type grants a sylvan permanent to all colors besides Clockwork Sapling, and gives Limited a curve-topper along with Graven Giant. • Made Skyborn Relic-Chaser only able to target artifacts, and removed the mana value rider, to differentiate it from Shadowbearer. • Swapped the rarities of Lightbearer and Consortium Customs. • Swapped the rarities of Fickle Fogling and Flitterwing. • Bumped Unshakable Resolve and Ragespark Igniter from common to uncommon. |
