thatmarkguy. Since we're mostly balancing for limited I'd add a cantrip that activates if it whiffs. That or up the cost and search depth.

I initially voted for confused, but then I wondered how many non-permanent spells a mastery deck wants to run. Probably as few as possible. So I decided I like mastery on permanents far more.

Man, making a card that enables mastery is a lot harder than making one that rewards it.
I'm wary of having more than a couple enchantment creatures at common. Even Theros only had 7 and it was the enchantment set. Plus it linked them all with a shared mechanic.
Making mixed type tokens could work. I'd leave card type changing mostly to blue. Resurrecting/regenerating a card type could maintain mastery. I guess any enchantment card at common enables mastery. Three auras and an enchantment creature at common is already plenty though.

At common in white. We have more at uncommon and rare.
In black we have 1 common and one rare. Then that's it.

White already has three enchantment creatures (Lightbearer, Glimmerbeam, and Sunbringer Falcon, which has to be too much already), tons of other enchantments, and two sources of relics at common. But any old creature helps you gain mastery, right? Unless we're admitting, heavens forbid, that the "lands and creatures" part is completely pointless text.

Academy Guard
Creature - Human Soldier (C)
Academy Guard gets +1/+1 as long as you control an artifact.
The same technology which makes the Academy a desirable target for warlords also makes it a dangerous one.
