Okay, so this is kinda likely to be an unpopular thing I suspect, although some may like it, some may hate it, but my idea here is I want to put together a pair of sets that I kinda wish WotC would print, largely for the sake of Modern, both in terms of reprints and having new cards enter Modern. Some of it will be new card designs, some of it will be various reprints that I think need a full Standard run, rather than just Modern Masters, although I'm going to avoid things that are too strongly un-adaptive flavor wise. This is a block that would essentially make me excited and cause me to buy a bunch of it. Not all the cards will be high power, some will just be there to fill things out and for the sake of limited of course, but it'll all lean towards higher power level than Standard usually is. Some of the high powered stuff won't be because I want it for Modern, but to keep things balanced between colors and strategies within the set/block, rather than just have random standouts.
I'm gonna call the block 'Modern Dream' for now.
My general aim is something generic fantasy feeling for the most part, possibly taking place on Shandalar or maybe some generic plane, possibly going more for being a pseudo-core-set or a non-flavor restricted set focused on gameplay.
272 cards (101 Commons, 80 Uncommons, 55 Rares, 16 Mythic Rares, 20 Basic Land)
(just copied that down for reference from Magic Origins info to help me later on)
My ideas for ratios for now:
Commons: 18 of each color, 11 colorless
Uncommons: 12 of each color, 10 colorless, 10 multi-color
Rare: 7 rares of each color, 5 colorless, 10 multi-color, 5 dual lands
Mythic Rare: 3 mythic rares of each color, 1 colorless
Each color will have at common:
at least one global enchantment, at least one beneficial aura (use on your own creature), at least one negative (use on opponent creature) aura, at least one instant, at least one sorcery, and at least one creature of cmc 1, 2, 3, and 4
probably the same for uncommon as well
