Serina is the second wife of Septimus Ravenbligt. It is considered a great honor to have your daughter chosen to become one his wives. The families are well cared for. Serina was chosen as the one that would sire all of the vampires for Ravenblight. Many of the newborns refer to her as mother, and it has started to go to her head. Adjusting to Vampire life has been difficult for her. She fights her more unsavory urges and tries to teach her children to do the same.

Lord Rufus is the true power behind the Clan of the Spider and most of the political intrigue in Maldrus Court. He is a decendant from a long line of wizards that used to help keep Malhedra imprisoned that became corrupted by Malhedra's Call and broke free from Ravenblight. He has been groomed for this his entire life. He believes that when Malhedra is free he will have the power to stop the Shroud and save the humans. It is the other races he would rather do without.

Matron Velorus is Lord Rufus' and Chancellor Jaden's only real opposition in the Senate. She is deathly afraid of what will happen if they get carte blanche rule in Maldrus. She expects them to be selfish, wicked men, but does not know they are members of the Spider. She has a lot of powerful friends in Maldrus and is largely funded by Guildmaster Lucas Tulgan.
