The Darkness

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness is near!
And all of the world is descending to fear.
The people in panic are crowding the street,
And disturbing the skulls of the dead with their feet,
Those poor souls who have already failed in their quest,
Are thus cruelly denied any hope for their rest.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness has spread!
And all but the bravest and foolish have fled.
The shadows are claiming the light of the sun,
And despite the attempts, there is nowhere to run.
Soon all of this world will be robbed of its light,
When the twilight has sunk to perpetual night.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness is there!
As screams of the damned float like leaves in the air.
The autumn has come and the winter is nigh,
And everything living is destined to die.
The screams are a song that the dying man sings,
As he waits for the silence eternity brings.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness consumes!
Like a weed that is choking the flower that blooms.
Every beautiful thing that this world used to know,
Has been cut at the root and forbidden to grow,
And the ground has been salted by blood of the men,
Who bore witness to that which will not grow again.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness begins!
So fall to your knees and repent all your sins.
The lives that we’ve led are a bushel of lies,
As celestial bodies are plucked from the skies,
The mistakes of our world are like visible scars,
As we solemnly ponder the fate of the stars.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness arrives!
And hundreds of thousands are losing their lives,
The wind on the air is the icy-cold breath,
Of the grim and unglimpseable spectre of death!
You can flee and then hide, but you’re already dead,
When the shadow of fate folds its wings overhead.

It’s coming! It’s coming!
The Darkness has won!
So take one final look at the things that we’ve done!
The light we enjoyed was a vile disguise,
Since the dark of Damnation has stolen our eyes.
And all that we knew was a wicked façade,
That has crumbled to dust from the Wrath of a god.

Title: The Darkness Poet: RavenoftheBlack Status: Public I've been meaning to get some of my remaining poems up for vote for a while now, and with Halloween this week, I thought it was a good time to put this poem up. Originally written as a sort of sample poem for the purposed "Minutes to Midnight" anthology, I really like how this one turned out, dark as it is. The Darkness The Darkness It’s coming! It’s coming! I think this is my favorite of the poems this week; it just feels like something right out of an animated musical. I actually read it in Scar's voice from The Lion King.
