By popular demand, earning twice as many votes as any other option, the story selected for vote this week is Deals and Devils, starring Syl and Chardis as the Dual-Walkers, with very special guest star Fisco Vane!

It has come to my attention that, while I was posting this, another vote was cast for another story, and so the voting tally is no longer accurate. :(

However, because people seem to want "Tears of the Djinn" and "Kiss of the Shorecerers" put up together, I will hold off and put them both up for vote next week.

Just a note: I have finals tomorrow, so I probably won't have time to send out the Voting Form Letter until mid-late afternoon. If anyone else wants to do it earlier, be my guest; remember to send it to the "M:EMbers" group, and the previous form letter should already be in the Archivist's inbox (just remember to change the date).

In a complete surprise play, Ruwin shocks everyone by voting "yea" on this story! THE CROWD GOES WILD!

I'm pretty sure we already discussed this piece at length, Raven, so you know I like it. :D It makes me want to go re-read "How to Trade a Planeswalker" to make sure I got some details correct.

I've edited in a poll, because this account can see who voted what in this forum; if everyone can please use the poll, even if you've already voted (I'm looking at you two, with the Goth vocal boy band), that would be good.

EDIT: and I voted abstain to check the feature -- works like a dream.

Really nice, now that I've, you know, actually read it. I do have a few lines to comment on, though.

The paragraph of exposition -"even the Shark could go fishing"- I feel may be unnecessary, as the enigma that is Fisco Vane always seems to work best as a more dialogue-centric character, or otherwise communicative, like how you describe the gap in his teeth.

I'm not sure how I feel about "the Shark's bait" line.

The final correction Fisco gave just kind of blew my mind. I imagined that scene acted out, where the music starts to swell just before he says "Mr. Vane", his face hardens, camera slowly zooms in, then cut to black as the credits roll -- basically telling you "this &#!^ just got real."

So, a rousing Yea from I.

In light of this and other upcoming stories involving the Dual-Walkers, I've uploaded their original story. Enjoy.

God I love Fisco. I'm not overly fond of the dual-walkers, but that's a personal thing. But Mr. Vane is brilliant. This seems mostly set-up for bigger things, but I still like it on its own. This gets a "Yea" from me.

Hmm. I'm honestly not sure how I should feel about my story getting voted on purely on the strength of someone else's character...

Oh, well. I guess I'll just say, "Thanks, Ruwin!" :D

Well, you did write him excellently. I wouldn't have voted if I thought it was a bad execution of the character.

@Raven: You are a wordsmith, sir. I'm sure Yxoque just had a bad experience with twins in his younger days, and now a silken shudder slithers slowly down his spine at the mere mention of such a pair.

The Rulus are... off. They're aloof and a little creepy, and I know for a fact that sort of thing doesn't appeal to everyone. I like them, though. :D And, like Yxoque said, you executed the piece very well.

@Yxoque: Thanks! I'm glad you like Fisco. I was honestly unaware you enjoyed him so much before this, so it's nice to know. :)

Sorry you were attack by a horde of ninja-twins when you were seven. :(

Haha, I'm just kidding. Personally, I am very fond of the Dual-Walkers, but they have a lot going against them. They are supervillians, but more than that, they are supervillians with almost no redeeming qualities (from a human standpoint, not a narrative one). They are powerful, rich, beautiful and utterly heartless. They are manipulative and paranoid, violent and deadly, and thoroughly selfish. They take whatever they want from others and leave as little as humanly possible behind when they're done.

So yeah, I can see why people wouldn't like them. I certainly wouldn't want to be their neighbors!

I think everyone does -- Two Bullets has the highest number of views in the NGA Archive so far, with 387 views. I advertised A Day in the Life of Obstinate Baloth and it still just has 311 views.

Me, I like Fisco, but I pay more attention to writers. Whenever something comes up for a vote by you, Raven, or Tevish, I get excited. (Apologies to Keeper and his self-esteem issues; it has to do with the number of stories in this case -- with less works, it's harder to know what to expect of someone [maybe that means I have no expectations placed on me?])

PREDIT: I like reading about the Dual-Walkers probably just as much as Fisco, but for different reasons. Like with Breaking Bad, I like seeing just how deep the Dual-Walkers can get before burying themselves in their self-destructive behaviour. Basically, I want to see them face the death and they're so afraid of.

THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A TRIGGER WARNING!

*Horrible flashback*
