This is for anyone who does, knows about, or well I guess that's it, Nanowrimo.

As an experiment I wanted to make a thread where people would be able to submit any word they wanted to. Then after a while I would go through the words and try to make a fairly comprehensible story out of it. effectively, a Nanowrimo collaboration.

I would add any words like "a", "the", "but" etc but only enough to make it work, relying on the thread for the vast majority of words. Personally I would want to rely solely on the words provided, but who wants to submit words like that? Though, it is something I'd address in the thread.

Before you start posting... this is not that thread, but I'm wondering if anyone might have some good advice on how to go about it, where, and what time you think I should start collecting words? I've never done something like this, but I really wanted to give it a try. Any help with planning this out would be appreciated.

I'm planning on starting a thread on the Nanowrimo site, early October.

Never seen anyone collect words, but I did attend one NaNoWriMo sit in at a coffee shop several years ago, and they handed out prizes to people who could incorporate silly extras into their stories, picked randomly from a hat.

You should start blocking your novel now.

And then unblock it, because it took offense to that.

Block my novel how? Like planning it out, or stopping it from contacting me? Or neither.

Planning it out. NaNoWriMo only asks you don't write the actual novel, but the rules allow you to plan it out in advance.

Yeah I do that. I can't imagine doing it without that.

I believe it used to be in the rules that you were to literally start from scratch - plot and all - on Nov 1.

I will make sure I participate this time...

My wife participates annually. I tried once, but I just am not a writer. Short stories from time to time, but not a novel.

Bah, I have three ideas that are piquing my interest.
1) A story based on characters I've concepted and such for picture. This would be following the characters in the pictures I posted a while back:
HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Basically it would be a story of the crew that stayed with their captain in the midst of a mutiny, and how they got their revenge against the mutineers.

2) The experiment where I get words submitted from other people and then I compile it as best I can into a 50k workable story (or group of stories).

3) I recently thought of an idea where there is a "superhero" based on ignorance. The person has superpowers as long as they don't know that it's abnormal. The plot would be that she wants to become normal, so she's actually slowly losing her superpowers per her desire (she doesn't want to be special if it means she has to be stupid). The overall theme would be not everyone has to be, or wants to be, a hero. Some examples:
The character is able to stand upside down (on cielings), but when her friend reveals that normal people can't do that, she falls down and can no longer defy gravity in that way.
She rescues someone by flying to get them away from somewhere, and when confronted about how she can fly, she asks why it's important. When it's revealed that no one else can fly, she loses the ability to fly.
A less dramatic example is when she's learning how to fall. Her friend is trying to explain how gravity works. This comes about with them dropping things and having to have her match the rates of other things falling. Like they'll both drop a pencil and hers will jus float there. They'll try again, and hers falls too fast. Then too slow etc.

==xx==

I'm bringing this up now because, if I happened to do the same thing this year, that I did last year, which one would you guys be most interested in reading?

Nope, nevermind; I thought of what I wanted to do.
I made it a game for me, and because I really need to plan it out. but because of the extensive planning involved, I won't say what my idea is (in case I ultimately decide not to do it), but it looks like it will be fun!
