Regarding experimentation and game exploration, I counter that not every game necessarily needs to allow significant customizability. Street Fighter 2 has 8 fixed characters and doesn't allow you to, for example, swap Ryu's fireball with Chun-Li's kicks. But the game is still beloved and has plenty of depth.
