So, Ben, how's Hong Kong? I've only been there in Deus Ex, and that place had fewer Buddha statues and more triads and secret underground plague-manufacturing facilities.

So what is the difference between instagram and a regular (camera) photo?

@Cato: Hong Kong is great. It's easy to get around and there is a ton to do. I mean, at this point I'm ready to go home. Being away is tiring and I'd like the comfort of my house.

@TPmanW: Instragram is a smart phone application originating for the iPhone and now on android devices. The application takes only square photos, like polaroids, and puts interesting filters on them. Basically it's something to make photos look more artistic than they are and hipsters love it. Except you can't write on the white space border.

So it's like a Photoshop LiteTM that you put onto your camera (that is in your smartphone). I figured as much, but why is the thread instagram only? Personally, I can't stand taking pics with my phone.

Well, i think a photography thread would be good because it shows some kind of talent or at least ability to use technique properly. instagram is very pedestrian which is why I like the low quality phone cameras (although at this point phone cameras aren't too awful). I don't know much about photography but to create the filters that instagram has with real equipment would be difficult so instagram embodies this faux art movement. it's basically terrible and great at the same time.

I think it's just great and people often do terrible things with it.
