Since Duels has somewhat died, I've rediscovered a cool MtG RPG from the 90's known as "Shandalar", after seeing ProJared play it over on YouTube.

It's actually a really absorbing game (and a bit of a nostalgia trip if you're 30+ like me and remember some of these cards from your school days). I haven't really touched any other games since downloading it

Here's an updated version of the original game that supposedly fixes a lot of the glitches people experience when downloading the original from somewhere like abdondonwaredos.

There's also an updated version called Shandalar 2015 (can be found on the same forum) which adds new cards all the way up to the M15 set. I personally find it to be too many cards, but this version does seem to work smoothly.

I'm not sure if most of you already knew about this, but I figured I'd share it anyway for those who have gone off Duels but still need their MtG heroine fix.

That was a great game. I have vague memories of Dark Ritual and Hypnotic Specter wrecking the computer.

I was about to post Maniac Mansion, Paperboy, Warlords or Giana Sisters. And then I realised, those are all from the 80's.

I feel old :(

So I offer Warlords II - but I suppose you should go for the Deluxe version. In addition to the amazing "multiplayer-by-email" feature, it also upgrades the game with:

Quote:
The updated version of the game ā€” Warlords II Deluxe ā€” was released in 1995. It allowed for custom tile, army and city sets for maps and provided support for 256 colours. Thanks to the publication of the editor, Warlords II Deluxe led to an increase of user-created content. Many new maps, army and terrain sets, and scenarios were distributed on the Internet for the game.

I spent quite a few hours with this back in the day. Also played Megalomania, Settlers, Sim City, Civilization, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein.... memory lane flood!

It's pretty fun playing with the entire suite of "power 9" cards (Black Lotus, Mox artefacts, Time Walk, etc.). Seriously broken :ookay:
