Pyramid of the Pantheon

Where does this card want to go? I had a hastily constructed 5-colour SuperFriends deck and figured the mana fixing would come in handy. But I'm not sure, anymore. The early cost of 2-for-1 mana slows up early progress, and if you end up with any number of tap lands in hand to start, that can be a crippling handicap at the beginning of a game, depending on your opponent.

That said, once you get those three brick counters on it, typically on T5 (mana dorks notwithstanding), the three extra mana is a great boon, but how do you implement it early enough to be effective?

Winding Constrictor or Skyship Plunderer

I think it's too slow even with Winding Constricter.

It's no Bounty of the Luxa.

It wants to go in an EDH/Commander deck.

On T1, it's definitely no good with the above cards.

T1: Swamp, Pyramid of the Pantheon
T2: Forest, Winding Constrictor
T3: Island, tap Pyramid for 2 counters, cast Skyship Plunderer
T4: Attack with Plunderer, 2 more counters on Pyramid... ready to go.

Pretty specific set of needs for this to work as early as T4. I mean, maybe if it comes out later, when you have all the pieces in place, you can get it up to speed faster.

I really want to like this card, but I'm not sure how to get the most out of it.

Maybe with something that untaps permanents. Like new mana dork and land with the enchantment on it and kiora plus whatever to untap this pyramid. Reason I don't think it's playable is ppl would troll you by letting you be mana inefficient then simply destroy it
Needs indestructible

Could be good in turbofog. I wanna try it as 1 of in control just to see how it behaves, probably not good.

T1: Island, Pyramid of the Pantheon
T2: Swamp, Skyship Plunderer
T3: Forest, Tap Pyramid for black, Winding Constrictor (1 brick because Constrictor isn't on the battlefield yet), Plunderer attacks (another brick)
T4: Land, Tap Pyramid for third brick... 3 mana to... do whatever... Any instants that can untap your artifact so you can cast something else? Dunno.

Still T5 before Pyramid becomes usable.

i dont think there's any deck for any reason paying 2 mana for 3 turns to have this thing go off.

this is huge tempo loss.. no way to combo with constrictor or plunderer.

i love seeing this card get played cuz I play aggro so i know i'm heavily favoured. But it happened once where the guy got 3 bricks on this thing and I couldn't believe I hadn't killed him yet. He then started fogging me like crazy and all sorts of weird stuff went on and I think I lost.

But as a general rule, i certainly like seeing the enemy pop this down.

this is definitely a combo card. need something to untap it, get the mana for some ability to untap it again etc. It's not a card meant for magic duels.

It's bad. Like Wanderer said, maybe there is some infinite mana combo available if you crack it, but as it stands, it's bad.

Biggest problem is it's not worth running if you can't abuse it with untap and/or brick adding. So you'd have to spend a portuion of your deck devoted to that. Then you need to devote spots to payoffs. But then you only have 2 copies of a rare artifact you can't even fetch up with Trophy Mage so all the build around is useless and rolling over if not drawing it.

And the real question is, why would you put that type of effort in when Explosive Vegetation exists? You don't need to devote any resources to setting up a practically impossible to actually achieve T1-T4 lines.

Imo, if you want to play with a goofy mana producer, use Bointy of the Luxa instead.

Well we have Vizier of Tumbling Sands, but no, the card is bad. (For now)

T1- island, pyramid
T2- island, brick, clockspinning
T3- 2nd clockspinning

Good to go.

It annoys me that Wizards feels the need to pad out our Rares with garbage ones that will see fringe, if any, play. I understand why they do that for paper and MTGO, but we already only get about 2/3 of the cards in the set anyway - no need to give us things like this and Prism Array

I was going to make that joke, but decided against it. Thank you for lacking standards on my behalf.
