I was looking over my paper version, and also reflecting back to earlier pre Magic 2015 even DOTP. Izzet was a favourite color combo and it was categorized by featuring good draw and synergy with instant and sorceries. I have a reasonable mix of Magic Duels cards with some like Thing in the Ice that work well with old Izzet strategies.

I guess I will trawl through the old lists but wondered on views in particular from the builders of what cards from origins onwards should be best for old school Izzet Guild decks? I guess thopters is obvious one but that has been a Magic Duels thing, I am hankering after old school draw and spell synergies and draw. Soulblade Djinn and Disciple of the Ring and the aforementioned Thing in the Ice. Any others?

Baral, Chief of Compliance
Niblis of Frost
Docent of Perfection
Brain in a Jar
Thermo-Alchemist
Weaver of Lightning

Of those, prolly Baral, Weaver, and Thermo are the strongest. Niblis is decent but prolly better in a U/W spirit build. Docent is one of those cards that looks cool but usually sucks in practice because its high cc makes it hard to cast and keep alive long enough to be useful. Brain seems better suited to slow control decks with powerful finisher spells like Rise from the Tides.

Also, while not a true synergy interaction, Fevered Visions is a great card for Izzet burn, too.

Oh, and Baby-Jace. Easy to flip in a spell heavy deck and lots of use for his flashback ability.

Lately that's been more of a Temur thing, at least on the steam ladder. I def see Izzet mill, but its a rare breed. Same could be said for Izzet burn, Izzet thopters, and even Izzet prowess. I like Thermo-burn in 2HG - feels less cheaty and more fun than mill.

I have a Grixis build for Tower Deck. But for sure the synergy is there but would probably push in an energy direction. Thing in the Ice probably with fast instants and cheap sorceries. I guess I could venture down the burn route but was more after synergies triggered off instants and sorceries. Its prowess I guess but it was felt enough prowess cards in Izzet colors and Prowess was not supported with more cards as far as I know after Origins.

Well mill is a mechanic I dislike the most, certainly to face and would not want to play a mill deck albeit it can be a successful strategy, but my take is never, ever fun to play with or against.
