Hey guys! So we have had a some time with the new set and we all know that black got some new power this time around so this got me thinking, where do you think each color stands at this time? Any color combos doing especially well or rather poorly? Additionally I have included a poll to see what color everyone thinks is at the peak of power right now. Please explain your answers in complete sentences, you will be graded on your neatness as well as your conciseness. |

Red because of Vehicles, Gruul Energy, and red has the best cards to beat the two top decks. It's basically a red meta. You can talk about Snek all you want.. but going Jund makes the deck objectively better IMO. |

For our current meta: The best removal - UD and Harnessed Lightning. Both run red. The best sweeper - Radiant Flames. Runs red. The best decks - Boros/Mardu/Rakdos Vehicle Aggro, Gruul Energy, Grixis Control. All run red. Best card advantage and value cards go to green though, but it has to be red for me. |

I'll go ahead and vote Black. Black currently has it all: Awesome removal (Fatal Push, Grasp of Darkness, Unlicensed Disintegration), great aggressive threats (Scrapheap Scrounger, Glint-Sleeve Siphoner, Winding Constrictor), good control finishers (Lili, Kalitas, Herald of Anguish). If we go by decks: BBB conveniently forgot to include BG Constrictor to his list of best decks (which I think is just better than Gruul/Jund Energy); and all of the decks mentioned aside from Gruul Energy run Black as well. Red is a very close second place however; the other three colours, while not being bad, are mostly there to define the deck's direction whereas Black and Red are pretty ubiquitous. |

Red is by far the best color. It's everywhere and why? Most of Red's best cards are commons and uncommons, so in the rarity restricted Duels meta, this fact can lend any deck extra consistently that Mythics and rares can't and it works even as a splash color. Actually red has quite a few meh Mythics and rares, but that's not really all that relevant because red isn't being played because of them anyway. If you need removal, black got better with Aether revolt, so some decks Choose to leave out red, but if you go with both red and black, you get Unlicensed Disintegration, which is the best removal spell available. If you want a fast aggro deck, red's usually there too. Unfortunately, I haven't built a convincing mono-red deck this season which is a bummer, but even being unconvincing, the decks I tried still won plenty if games. Rakdos is just too alluring currently to stay mono... |

Yeah, so obviously red. If harnessed lightning wasn't enough for you, think of a deck, add red to it, it's probably a better deck. Black is good though. Try red and black? Best deck probably. |

I think it depends on the combination, every color have their charme. But what is significant, is that all my decks that got red in it, are the most succesfully ones. So currently red seems to be the color to play, independant what kind of deck you play. The only combination that seems to be weak, even with red are pure RG Decks. |

oh red fo sho red/black control would be fun if there was any good artifact removal in red (goddamn WotC/Stainless leaving out an important part of red's color slice) |

Tough one to call as overall probably takes it but in terms of card power probably has the edge but the rarity restrictions do hurt it. |

Red has been the best color for pretty much the entire history of this game. |

Would red still be the best if you're only allowed to build mono-colored decks? |

Renko wrote: Would red still be the best if you're only allowed to build mono-colored decks? Most likely yes. Maybe Green could provide enough blockers/lifegain with Offshoots and Druids to ramp, but Red could pretty consistently burn out everything else. Red hasn't always been the best dominant colour, but it's been the best supporting colour before that (Gruul Monsters, Gruul Moss Ramp etc) |

Not that anything rules with an iron fist, but red as the choice. Decent creatures, haste, tokens, some trample effects, buffs, removal, and burn, it's versatile. |

I just wanted to say that I don't have a preference, because I don't see colour. You're all racist. |

Renko wrote: Would red still be the best if you're only allowed to build mono-colored decks? Mono-coloured against the current metagame or mono-coloured against a mono-coloured metagame? In case of the former, I think it's tough to say; every non-blue monocolour option has its merits. White can go wide the best, Red has the best reach, Green has the best pump spells at the expense of removal, Black has the best removal and very good threats at the expense of reach and pump. In case of the latter, I think Black wins out by a mile. Mono-coloured decks are aggressive, Black has the best cards to turn the race in its favor (Gifted Aetherborn playing a central role here). |
