https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/5umqp7/first_ever_look_at_magic_digital_next/ Looks a lot like Duels. |

Apparently there's mention of it having a full rules engine so it's fancy and fun like duels but has a full rules engine like mtgo. |

Well alpha's always look unpolished but this does look a weee bit terribad. I had expected some sort of upgrade to the Duels formula at least. elk |

Well it kind of is. It's confirmed to have a full MTG rules engine, upkeep and everything. Slightly flashier duels with pop-out creatures and full MTG gameplay. Could be a bit over the top given our tendency to turn the more flashier stuff off in duels, figured it would be more like PTCGO and have simple and quick animations that flow with the game. |

I told you, I told you all AHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!! It looks a bit on the barebones/iphone exclusive game side, but here's hoping it's an improvement gameplay wise over Duels and UI wise over MTGO. |

Soooo....... The UI looks very similar to Duels; I wonder how a card like Emerakul's ability plays out on it. EDIT: I wonder how longtime MTGO players will adjust to Next. I'm sure we'll be fine since we're used to Duels, but plenty of people will probably just want simple gameplay mechanics like MTGO and can do without the excess flair. I can imagine the uproar if they run into someone with damage effects on. |

Actually, I've not seen a vid or anything of Emrakul on MTGO and now I wanna look up how that did it. |

I think the big question we need answered now we have an idea of the UI and know there is full rules engine is what is the economy going to be like? |

Yea, basically, there are only two questions that will define the game: 1. rarity restrictions or lack thereof and 2. the free2play vs/and/or paywall stuff. The UI does look terribad, but Eternal went down the same route of MTG rules (sort of) and HS interface and is having some success. I don't like the look, but it's really quite minor stuff. |

I can get behind it, although looking at it there it looks like the board could get really cluttered fast |

Sjokwaave wrote: I think the big question we need answered now we have an idea of the UI and know there is full rules engine is what is the economy going to be like? My theory on the economy: Somewhere in between Duels and MTGO. So like Duels some cards can be unlocked by playing and like MTGO some other cards will have to be bought with cash or purchased through participating in an event like a Draft. I bet it will allow you to own as many copies of each card as you want and it will not have rarity limits. I also think you will be able to trade cards and when you make a deck it will use up each card in it until you delete that deck. I think it will be different from MTGO in that not every card from every set that comes out will be in it. It will also be different from Duels in having some cards that are purchase only and not having rarity limits for deck building or a limit on how many copies of each card you can have in your collection. I'm thinking it might not keep up with the Standard releases, it might be more like a collection of Magic's Greatest Hits. This is only my theorizing though, and I haven't played on MTGO in like 12 years. |

The more it goes, the more I am under the impression that once next is online, MTGO players will have their collections transferred and we duel players will have to restart collections from scratch. I hope there will be at least some kind of small welcome package like " oh you played duels, nice, here , have X booster packs to get started in Next" I get it that duels is free and that they are not obligated to give anything away to f2p players, but still, would be nice to do so if Duels gets effectively terminated by Next's arrival. |
