1. Deck Building
2. Play
3. Luck

What percentages would seasoned players ascribe to these elements?

From seasoned players, you'll get a rather even spread I think. Something like:

1. 40%
2. 40%
3. 20%

If the seasoned player loses a match, it's because:

1. 10%
2. 10%
3. 80%

If the seasoned player is posting on the forums, it's:

1. 63%
2. 76%
3. 02%

For Mwuanno, it's mostly about savagely cheating (old, inside joke - he doesn't actually cheat.)

Mtg is about deck building but any deck no matter how good is limited by its pilot (player). So they go hand in hand. And ladyluck? Sometimes she smiles at you and gives you a godhand sometimes she f**ks you up. nothing we can do with that. But you deck building and playing can minimize how much luck can affect your deck.

Everyone who play magic has their own reason. I love deck building. Some like winning. Others just wants to experience different decks. Its up to you to find what you like about it and go from there!

On NGA Duels... it's just 1000% salt.

The only real statistic I can quote is that, the world's best players playing against top opposition (i.e. at the Pro Tour) win about 65% of their games. How much of that is due to luck, deck building and play, your guess is as good as mine.

Paper Magic has one major difference to Duels: You can read your opponent's body language/reactions so like poker, that's a key elemental for pros.

Good deck building and skill at playing are just ways to reduce the luck elemental against you, seeing as in theory luck distribution should be roughly equal both players, but sometimes it just isn't. That's when the salt comes.

Turn 1 annihilating eldrazi is a perfectly valid play. If you can't take it,I can only say: git gud!



Everyone should have my babies - spread the seed and all. Although, if we don't go for the baby spawning, I can always just park my Bone Flute in Babs City of Ass. It might not be pleasant but at least it's quick Little Girl.

You can kinda read your opponents in this game too; like when they're playing a certain way, or they keep pausing the timer, etc.

Crucial information.

What, really, can any game be about, but ourselves. Are we not magical? Is not life a series of challenges, or duels? What kind of message can we glean from these games except to more deeply understand our own role in the world. How do we face challenges? Are we strong, powerful, devious, clever?

Magic Duels is a conduit through which we can gain greater understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

Also, it's sometimes about throwing robot werewolves at dragons.

Not to mention the color pie! It leads you to ask yourself questions about who you really are. Are you a merely an impetuous hothead (red)? Or is there more to you, like a love of nature (green), sneakiness (blue), wimpy friendliness (white) or perhaps you are sadist who sacrifices animals to a dark god (black)? Magic Duels has a color or color combination for every sort of person!

Seems about right. I will say that the luck part can vary a lot depending on the first two factors of you and your opponent. Luck is almost non existent if you vastly overmatch your opponent in skill and deck building. On the other hand, luck will be the deciding factor in a more evenly matched battle.
