Has anyone else noticed how 90% of the good cards we get seemed to be locked into mono to dual color decks? I get they don't want 5 color decks having an easy time of it, but c'mon now, I'm going through trying to make some gearhulk fun and every 2/3 cards is this or that. this doesn't look too promising ='(

Except we have Tireless Tracker, Sylvan Advocate and Declaration in Stone to show why great cards should be double costed. The latter is in every deck running White because it is the most efficient removal we have, and both of the former need to have a reeeeeeal good excuse not to be auto-includes in any deck using Green.

Also, all my counter spells are Double Blue, I know the feel :(

It's part of balancing.. and it's a good thing. Bounce's post is proof why.

For example, my beta phase Mardu Hulks has 17(!) different cards that all require double of one color. I get balance, but we don't have to pigeon hole every good card to a single color. it's almost to the point of punishing going beyond splashing. I can understand making things have more color in them to stop abuse, but it's really never or it's always in favor of mono with or I noticed it especially heavy in r/w/b color scheme.

If it went to the face.. yes. Target creature.. eh. It doesn't suck.. but I'm not doing backflips for it.

It would be pretty busted to hit face, but we'll see what it ends up doing. It's easily top 1 or 2 of the energy cards.

I believe my favourite thing to do with energy has to be Bristling Hydra. Hexproof AND a counter? All of my yes.

Welcome to the club, the Mardu club. Prepare for frustration! (and play 4 copies of Read the Bones).

I would assume that spell costs are balanced around competitive level Draft/Sealed/Standard, not Duels. I don't think this is the audience you are looking for. And honestly, I don't think that anyone here is going to care that you can't shove every "good" card you find into your rainbow deck.

Well they don't go deep into combined colours in non-gold focused sets so that means doubles instead. Using doubled up colour costs is standard practice for balancing cards.

It's always like this the week before release. We get 2 days or so worth of brewing, then silence, followed by a butting of heads over semantics.
