All of this is again technically correct, yet somehow doesn't resolve the issue that Segovia could've tapped 'before combat' to activate heart, and then resolve trigger. I know you are a perfect anglophone Fel, and I know Dvert is a lawyer, so he doesn't like people invoking 'abuse of privilege' or 'spirit of the law', but to me it still feels all very anticlimatic, and off-putting, even though the ruling was correct. :ahem:

'Legalese is the last language spoken on the tower of Babel' is another nice little quote that Dvert will shoot down now.

Didn't he win the round in any case? Does it matter that he went 2-1 instead of 2-0?

It's more about the principle in conjunction on how to declare variables throughout a game of Magic; especially moving forward throughout the Pro Tour.

Also, tiebreakers are a thing.

Judges don't care about anticlimatic. They care about rules.

I googled it and found nothing, so I'm not sure it qualifies as a nice little quote.

It's also gibberish. There aren't graduations to correctness here. There aren't shades of grey. It's literally right and wrong. The person calling the judge was right.

I think the whole thing was absurd. It was obvious what Cesar wanted to do , Nguyen knew it as well , and he also knew how he was going to be a d*** the moment he gave the weldfast a second glance. Ruling was made on an ambiguous shortcut phrase ? Are you kidding me ?
You know what else , I looked over the clip multiple times , and I could swear Cesar never said combat , he straight away tapped the weldfast to crew after playing it. He did not say anything, nor did he make any hand gestures.
Sly cu** that Nguyen is.

That's because it's a local quote, uttered by the 20 y chairman of the fiscal service in Belgium, one of my teachers. It basically means : modern lawyers are the scum of the earth, and will ruin the planet. He said that before the 2008 banking crisis, or I'm sure he would've amended it

So, none of the new builds from the pro-tour are usable in Duels?

If it takes you 10+ minutes to explain how someone messed up when using a shortcut, then maybe you should admit the shortcut isn't actually well thought out and rule in their favor. That's why we have humans doing the judging and not computers. The job of a judge is to make calls, not to follow the rules blindly. If they're going to be draconian about it, the judge should have told Segovia to shut up and stop complaining or he'll get a warning.

I'm with you, the ruling was correct but it was a scum move, but some value sportsmanship higher than others. I'll never win a game that way and I don't care about the feelings of scummers, a poor sport is a poor sport and needs telling. I'm glad he lost the match.

Turns out the Copy Cat deck was overrated and needs no ban, rejoice all! Your diverse top 8 consists of Mardu Vehicles and BG decks. Enjoy.
