I recall everyone at school having a problem with Banding when it came out, back in the olden days. Looking back on it now, it all seems pretty obvious, though, so I'm not sure how it became complicated. Maybe it was poorly worded in the booklet.

And then came The Dark and I stopped playing. Counters? Token creatures? It's all too much!

And yet, here I am again, and counters and tokens are so commonplace they're part of the background.

Fallen Empires was the set that made me quit paper. So much garbage in one set, it's actually amazing the game ever recovered from that era.

Fallen Empires came out in 1994, same year as The Dark? Wow damn, I guess I've been playing since 1993 then, and apparently I stopped playing earlier than I thought.

Hmm, I may have conflated The Dark and Fallen Empires. I had to look it up and saw thallids and immediately started to shake with rage. How I hated those buggers, both playing with and against. Plus, so many lisped salad jokes... It was a bad time.

Oh wait, it's actually Alliances that made me quit. In 1996. That makes more sense because I played a lot of Ice Age.

I loved Alliances. I thought it was a great set. Lots of really good power cards, first real set with multiple ways to cast a spell (Force of Will anyone?).

Homelands was a terrible set. Such garbage overall, though it was cool they were trying to tell a gothic story through it.

Looks like I started in revised and ended with ice age too. Pulled everything out of storage a couple months ago. Even had a couple dual lands still.
Haven't found any non neckbeards to play paper with yet but duals works great.

Pulled all my D&D and war hammer out too... oh childhood

I may be old, but I don't look it. I regularly get mistaken for a 20something, and absolutely nobody believes me when I tell them my actual age. I'm told I look around 30 at the absolute oldest.

Magic's a simple game, 2 people take turns playing cards and in the end Divinevert wins 2-0...

I draft occasionally; but don't have the money and time to invest into Paper, especially since I don't get to play often.

My first contact with MTG was during Kamigawa and ended with Planar Chaos. Been playing some drafts during KTK/FRF, an Origins prerelease and some KLD drafts.

I started with Mirrodin, played in tournaments while in high school so that I could have money to buy weed. Then stopped when I was in college. Then got back into magic around 2015 or so. Mostly Legacy and EDH but I also try to get out to prereleases too
