I do understand that my opinion regarding the card is controversial, and that I might be totally wrong there. In a sense, the grade I gave the card still reflects that, since even if the card ends up being good, it's wont be more than a 3.0, so the grade I gave it can't be far from the truth. Still, it's not like I don't have arguments to justify my grade.
Comparing the card with
From Beyond is very misleading, and I really hope you guys are doing that just for simplicity. Yes, FB is also a tutor for your finisher, but the difference is that it generates value even when its not tutoring anything, by ramping you or by making bodies you can use. If it was just a 6 mana tutor for Ulamog, it wouldn't be even close to be as good as it is.
I agree with you on this one, Fel.
From Beyond is a great card on its on in our environment, but I'm not sure if I would run it just for it's ability to poop scions. It is its ability to tutor the most powerful creatures in the game is completely over the top. And it happens to be in the best ramp color in the game, so its inclusion was almost inevitable. If you are going to cast 10 mana bombs, you might as well get there quickly.
Call of the Gatewatch, while I believe is a solid card, isn't quite to the same level. You do not HAVE to run white to run Planeswalkers...you can run 4 Planeswalkers in a Gruul deck easy. If you are running White, it probably is a good idea to have Call of the Gatewatch, as it will make your deck better to grab the Planeswalkers, but it isn't necessary.
According to his code at the beginning of his article, "2.0: Role player in some decks, but not mandatory." That pretty well defines Call of the Gatewatch to me.
