Zombies probably don't look like the tier 1 everyone wants them to be. Tell me, outside of Fatal Push what are their plans for Copter or HoK? What is their plan for Harvester? The W/B variant probably doesn't have flying blockers, it'll need to play a midrange game to grind out the Vehicles through value, which isn't going to help them if Vehicles gets a great draw. You'll then have to look at Naya midrange, which is shaping up pretty well, are those White exiles on block going to be enough to compete with it? I think those are the 2 decks more likely to come out over Zombies atm, at least the W/B version.

Zombies are still leagues above Allies though, I think the comparison to Elves is fair.


Elves to Zombies may be fair - although I suspect Zombies may be better.

People compared Elves to Allies. Ridiculous.

To be clear, I wasn't comparing elves to allies, just responding to previous comparison. They clearly aren't same level bad. I was referring to a range between them. I think zombies will fall in the range between elves and humans.

Where is all the amazeballz artifact hate that I saw spoiled? I was really looking forward to steel boot crushing vehicle decks. I don't think the meta will change much without release the gremlins level artifact hate (blow up possibly lots of artifacts with 1 card).

Did we get anything outside of Harsh mentor that is designed to break the vice grip vehicle decks have? Mentor is a fragile damage dealing answer at best. I don't even see the green cards that seemed decent artifact hate. Am I missing it?

I really wanted to play with Dissenter's Deliverance. All the benefits of a situational card but with a :g: cycle for those games it's useless. :(


Yeah, it's a little ridiculous. The closest thing we got to vehicle hate is Harsh Mentor, but I feel like that's maybe best suited for an edge in vehicle mirror matches (Cast Out is great, but talking about the cards that focused hate on vehicles). Its like they want Standard to be able to free itself from the oppressive mire of vehicles, but Duels can keep stewing in that toxic puddle. My only hope is that Vehicles failing to take the crown in showdown/fightclub will steer people away from them... that and being distracted by shiney new toys. But still prob see Copter/Harvester in every deck and Heart/Skyship in most.

I can't wait to try Anointed Procession in my bant clues deck. Let's see if it's a killer combo with Mechanized Production and Tamiyo's Journal.

Amonkhet definitely tries to disincentivize vehicles, but we didn't get enough hate to really warrant that. Certain decks aren't going to want vehicles, but may include a couple anyways because of our limitations. As long as we keep getting new, playable cards, we'll eventually get creatures that will fit in a deck better than the vehicles. It all depends on what they give us, though.

I agree with you and I believe the inevitable answer (need to return back home to start messing with Deck Builders) would be either going Abzan () or Esper ( or again Mardu () for the direct damages but this last we know already works very well with vehicles :huh:

I wrote an overly wordy post about how all my hopes and dreams get shafted every season and this is exactly the case this season. Unfortunately my post timed out and it was lost to the interwebs and I don't feel like doing it all again.

To sum it all up, I have been wanting good answer cards to what I see as a very strong mechanic and they won't give them to us. Every set I want the creature that exiles creatures until it's removed. Every set i want remove x artifacts card. I will even settle for destroy or put in library target artifact (that isn't limited to a cmc of target) for 2cmc but nope apparently that's too good. Every set I want "tap target permanent" that is an artifact eg Pacification Array, Deadlock Trap, Edifice of Authority. I don't understand why we will never get those types of cards. They are good vs vehicles and go tall decks and harder to remove than creatures that have a similar ability. I am forever disappoint.

A :w::b: zombies deck will probably run Time to reflect. They can just as easily run copies of Fragmentize. Along with push it's all 1cmc removal, pretty easy to run in an aggro deck. I'm not completely sold on how fast zombies can jump out consistently though. Will only know after we get to play around with the new zombies, seems we still don't have enough 2 drops.

That's basically why I look at the speculation thread, comment on interesting cards but avoid trying to make decks based on new cards or meta calls before the Duels list drops.
Even then, I feel disappointed because of 1 card, Soul-Scar Mage... And I had noticed, Duels got shafted on the vehicle hate. We did however get a destroy Planeswalker spell which was unexpected...

Yes that was going to be a very good card for all the new indestructible stuff. I too shed a tear for it's non-inclusion.

The real question is does it need to gain anything to keep it's throne as the defacto king of aggro decks? It did gain indestructible pilots in the god cards. Who cares if they can't swing when they can drive. :roll:

That 3/2 boros human that pumps on attack?
Incentive to run Sorcery speed removal in other decks?

A couple of interesting 3 power creatures and not much else...
I guess they could try insult to injury for Alpha strike, but that's borderline useful...

The 3/2 would be good for a straight Boros deck, and I agree that the inclusion of some great Sorcery removal pieces like Never and Cut will weigh in its favor. What about Mardu though?

I think zombies have enough tricks to have serious game: it's just a question of finding the right build.

Binding Mummy can tap artifacts, In Oketra's Name for alpha strikes and even if Time to Reflect doesn't hit fliers (has game against big green though which looks like it will be all over the ladder) you're in the colours to run Grasp or white's other exile/sac removal.

Once you add in the lords, Kalitas, recursion and the rest of the Orzhov toolbox you've got a lot going for them: more than elves have ever had.
