Magic did away with core sets, but are core sets the only way to bring back old cards? Because there are so many old awesome cards that could be worked into the current Standard (and therefore Duels) that would help facilitate new decks (or revive old decks)

I was just thinking about how amazing a card like Congregation at Dawn, which certainly was not and is not OP, would be so fantastic in Duels. I wish more cards would show up like that, cards that aren't overpowered but would create support for new archetypes out of the current card pool.

Any other cards that you wish showed up in Duels? I'd love to see Hero's Blade show up. Grave Pact would be a great start towards opening up mono-color options. Etc.

We are locked into the re-organisation of the block system and the showcasing (if that's the right word) of the new set in Duels. Aside from the booster box additions which of late only seems designed to support to a limited extent the new archetypes introduced there is no other mechanism. It's just a strategy call by Wizards with re-imaging MtG with Origins so the ability to provide older cards that used to happen in old DOTP is not available.

It is odd however that Modern Masters releases some old cards so they recognise the appetite, its just not and never will be part of what they intend Duels to be, and at that for how long. The plans for Magic Next are probably still likely to follow the established pattern but how they handle MTGO in terms of Magic Next will be the really interesting think to watch, unless of course MTGO never changes which is also possible (If it aint broke, don't fix it).

I still think it remains to be seen if Wizards can work out how their digital future is best served. I would say the jury is still out on that one for now.

Grave Pact was in 2014. It rocked.

I wish they'd make special inclusions of old cards and have them cost more gold than regular packs. Like Modern Masters cards for Duels.. 1,500 gold Praetor or Titan packs. Hell.. I'd pay 2500 gold for Massacre Wyrm or Progenitus.

Let's face it, the "old" cards most people miss are mostly Extremely powerful cards that can and would Warp the meta. I do miss some old cards from the time I played paper Magic, but I don't know if they really belong in Duels...
I'm actually more interested in new and interesting cards, although I feel a couple of mechanic like madness or clues could be expanded upon in the new sets instead of just creating janky and clunky new mechanics or downright Broken ones (like Vehicles).

Probably it's more work for them that they don't want to do (check balance issues). To be fair, they do reprint some cards on each set.

As for inclusion in Duels, again it's more work for them that they don't want to do. There's a tricky balance of including an interesting reprint while having it not warp the meta too much.

I was thinking if they could release something like Standard Masters, but then I realized that was what the Core Sets were.

As a blue player there are so many reprint's I would want, but most I don't think will ever make it into duels or ever should for that matter due to balance issues. Rite of Replication and Blatant Thievery and Bribery are perfect examples of that. I think even Dissapation Field would be too much for duels since it just wrecks vehicles. What I would want are some non stop draw outlets similar to Thopter Spy Network and Deepfathom Skulker such as Military Intelligence and Bident of Thassa. I feel blue is underused in rush strats and this would be the boost needed. I know mono blue fliers wouldn't mind Favorable Winds or Gravitational Shift or Warden of Evos Isle :D. Though my favorite cards were Future Sight and Cast Through Time simply because I felt like an op mage that couldn't be stopped and could see the future.

I'd love some of the classic, big demons. Hell, I'd even take recent ones like Desecration Demon, anything more interesting than Kothophed and Herald. I don't even think Rune-Scarred Demon would be that busted with all the UDs floating around.

I know it's very powerful, but Sneak Attack as a Mythic would be so much fun! That or a white Enchantment Tutor.

Not sure which old card i would see in duels, but i would like more cards for monocolored decks, that is with 3+ colored mana in their cost.

In this thread everyone misses power creep. Even at mythic rarity some of these cards are too damn powerful, I mean sneak attack? Reanimate? Yeah that's going overboard. What next, demonic tutor? Force of Will? Jitte? Snapcaster mage? Swords of plowshares? I am ok with bringing some old cards but Some of the old cards can outright break the game. Even a stupid card like moss had a very negative impact on the meta.
