^ Title.

Last night I lost to an Aid From the Cowl deck that milled itself down to 17 cards, and could have won 6 miserable turns earlier by sacrificing their Alchemist's Vials to target my blockers instead of adding counters and NOT EVEN SWINGING(!!!) to their Defiant Salvager. All of this, because the shuffler blessed me with 14, yes, 14 lands in a row. The final straw was RtB scrying a Swamp + 2nd RtB, only to bottom both and draw...a Swamp and a Shambling Vent. Salt engaged.

Anyone else got something this catastrophic?

Going back to 2015, but I kept a solid 3 lander on the draw and my opponent went mountain, burning inquiry

Discarded all my land and then spent the next 8 or so turns discarding to hand size while getting beat down by 1/1's, surprised wizards allowed a 1 mana sorcery that wins the game to sneak through testing...

Honorary mention to getting hit for 18 off one tutelage trigger and losing the game next turn from it

Worst one was when an oath of nissa allowed an apparently naya opponent to drop liliana turn 3 and snipe away my creature.

Losing against a mill player when he had 1 lp left and no mana because my prized amalgamam allowed him to mill 2 more was annoying too, since the other amalgam was near the bottom of my deck too and my best weapon vs. Mill killed me.

I really ... really ..... reeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaally hate Ajani.
Its a nightmare to deal with if you aren't already quite ahead on board or dont have some direct PW removal.
My worst losses have been from that card. I'm ahead the whole game, then suddenly Ajani drops and it's just value town for my opponent.

Ugh I hate him so much. Makes me want to play hyper aggro ALL the time just so I never have to see that absurd card.

I was playing a rank 2 opp running RDW in an apparent attempt to try to farm gold for new cards (had some D card staples like Goblin Arsonists and Twin Bolt, with a few decent unlocked cards scattered in). I was mana screwed on 2 land with a handful of stuff I couldn't cast (3 and 4cc creatures, handful of buff spells with no creatures of my own on board), and opp was slowly killing me with 3 Goblin Arsonists. I manage to draw removal two turns in a row to take out 2 Goblins, but the 3rd is still doing work and I'm below 10 life, dying to draw more land. Then opp mysteriously decides to cast Collective Defiance with 2 modes, hitting my face for 3 and WHEELING MY HAND... the hand I had been missing land drops and not developing my board with... I draw a fresh 7, and suddenly have 2 Land (last two cards drawn, meaning I would have died before ever drawing them naturally), a burn spell, Brawler, big Nissa, Arlinn, and Skyship. I burn opps last Goblin, draw a 3rd land, and take over the game with my PWers. I was planning to concede so opp could get gold for more cards after putting a little more quest progress in first, but opp quit before me - prob pissed seeing what he wheeled away and drew me into.

Oh wait, MY worst loss. I'd say during Origins when I was trying to do an Ally deck with no non-creature spells, and I ran into a Dimir Willbreaker deck. I had a wide board of Allies beating face and things are looking dandy - until opp drops Murklurker, followed next turn by Willbreaker, then proceeds to start stealing All The Doods! Dirty bastard added insult to injury by not attacking me with stolen things to end the game efficiently, instead preferring to steal every. single. creature of mine first. More than that, even after they stole all, they passed over their attack phase to let me play more things they could steal (and that's the point I quit out). Of course I couldn't punish them for it because I wasn't running removal. Bad deckbuilding choice, and bad mannered by opp. Still haven't forgotten that game.

Psh. That wasn't a defeat. You just got porked by the shuffler. A true defeat is when you play a real game and lose either to a brilliant and unexpected play by your opponent, or to a misplay on your part.

There was one game I played a while ago where I had taken a beating early but had stabilized and gained an advantageous board state. There was one turn where I held back a blocker during the declair attackers step to prevent getting killed on the counter attack. Then, right after confirming, realized I would have had lethal if I'd just gone all in. It was one of those situations where there were no variables - he had no hand, I think. Anyway, I still had advantage and would have won on the next turn. Except he topped Gisela, I didn't have an answer, and he ended up winning a few turns later. Nothing but my own defensive bias to blame for that one. :p

Oh, if we're talking from a misplay POV I once cast 2 Brilliant spectrum from a talent of the telepath without thinking.

Turn 4 draw 0, discard 4 was not my finest moment :(

Decisive turn of the game I've definitely fatal pushed' something I couldn't kill. It just bounces off and flutters to the pile.

Not sure how Nighthawk can lose at this point. That's so bad it's amazing.

I've done that. The fact that you are allowed to target things that you can't kill with it makes it an easy mistake to make, since most cards with similar conditions have the conditions baked into the targeting legality. So you see it highlighted in your hand as an active/playable card and just assume it will work.

I'm with Kryder, Nighthawk wins this thread, hands down.

Nighthawk's play reminds me of when I cast titan's strength on bomat courier before combat and then when I drew my next card it wasn't what I scryed, I yelled out: wtf?? Another stainless bug???
Lost that game because the card I scryed and then exiled with courier was a much needed land, I then failed to draw into.

I actually did the same thing another time before realizing my mistake.

On the subject of fatal push and bomat courier, against nightwisher in the showdown, I drew a couple of fatal pushes and not much else and was getting beaten down by some 3-drop. I attacked with courier to get another card, then to sac to activate revolt and kill the 3-drop. Yeah, I should have cast fatal push first (without a valid target, even though it lets me) and then sacked the courier to discard. When I pause to cast fatal push, they were already both in the yard...

Video got corrupted for some reason, so that awesome hymn to stupidity didn't make it to youtube...

Actually, the most insulting loss would probably be to lose against elves or maybe even worse, allies...

Thankfully, I Can't remember that ever happening to me, or I'd have thrown in the towel...

Lol, I almost did allies for the flicker challenge, just to see how they'd work being able to trigger Rally on opps turn. Literally nobody would expect it and you could prob pull of some big ambushes (team first strike) for some hilarity. Couldn't bring myself to actually build it tho. Too turned off by Origins attempts at ally decks...

I did actually build flicker elves, JFF. It was as bad as you'd think, but I did pull off one insta-win casting the life drain elf and fluxing it right away. Opp on the ladder prob added the game to their worst losses list :p
