Probably quite a longshot given the IOS player user base in NGA but for those that exist any interest in trying a BLOCK constructed format. The idea would be to run an ORI/KLD/AER tournament.

Rough details for now are creating a sealed constructed CUBE pool from the 561 unique cards that form the ORI/KLD/AER block.

Selecting 9 15 pack 'sealed boosters' and creating a 60 card deck with 15 card sideboard. (total cards 561 possible unique cards for the 60 card deck and 15 sideboard cards). 3 ORI, 3 KLD and 3 AER 15 card boosters.

For each match you can sideboard within the match with the 75 Card pool. Between matches you can create a whole new deck and sideboard but from the 135 cards you initially drew from the Cube.

It would be an all play all, best of 3 matches but no real limit on completing - just to be complete before next block.

Unlikely it will appeal to many but of course the idea is to show creativity with the latest Block with Origin as a necessary base.

This would also assume that all players would have access to all cards - i.e. a full unlock. Again in particular with AER that may not work for even the iOS crowd that play.

I will see what the response is and kick it into touch.

Otherwise I guess we just keep the KOH format going but this does mean long waits potentially for matches.

I'd definitely like to do something like this, SD.

Okay that's enough of an interest as I should be able to get 1 or 2 more interested. Let me work on the Cube itself and get back to you.

Okay, watch this space. I want to do a bit of a Brain dump on some of the challenges around getting a good experience for everyone and a vehicle for offering competitive iOS matches that help develop both your deck building and piloting skills. In a lot of ways we are lucky as we do already have great deck builders and players on iOS despite being a small group. You know who you are. In advance of that can everyone post here and let me know what the current completion is for ORI and KLD and expected completion of AER when it hits (basically do you already have the gold 8.6K to buy AER on day 1).

SquiderDragon: ORI 100%; KLD 100%; AER 100% (11.3k gold)

Firstly I wanted to give a big shout out to Crazy Razor who brought this to my attention and has been very helpful. I don't want to burden him with any admin but if I run into difficulty I know he will be there.

Cube draft is normally built by someone creating a cube which is just a pool of cards that players then draw from and build a deck. It is no mean feat to build a good cube which contains enough good cards to make playable decks for everyone.

However I am using the same principal but the full Cube has all the cards (and by this I mean all duplicate copies so 4 of each common, 3 of each rare etc).

The ORI / KLD / AER cube has 561 unique cards but a total of 1,748 cards to draw from. Plenty enough.

In a normal draft sealed event (e.g. Pro Tours) they would have 6 booster packs (15 cards) and build a 40 card deck. They can use any of the other cards to sideboard as I understand it.

In numbers this means they have a pool of 6x15 = 90 cards or 2.25 times as many cards to build from.

We will use 9 packs of 15 = 135 cards to build a 60 card deck. This is also 2.25 times as many cards so in principal it should be enough cards to put a decent deck together.

There are tools to 'create' the booster packs from the Cube and they will follow usual distribution of common, uncommon, rare and mythic as you would expect.

With 3 boosters (45 cards) for Origins (and ORI includes all the starting D cards as well so its bigger than any other set but creates a good base of cards to build from.

I was planning 3 from KLD and 3 from AER but with AER being the new block it probably makes sense to have 2 KLD and 4 AER and this is what you see in the prerelease. So you should have a decent pool of the new AER cards, some synergy with the KLD cards and the ORI base to fill out your decks.

More later ..... I will discuss what happens and how we handle anyone who wants to take part but does not have a full set for some or all of the ORI, KLD or AER sets.

This is an example of cubes generated for The Previous 2 Blocks B4Z/OGW and SOI/EMN

I need to have a think as the boosters if we have all cards will select randomly so you may not get e.g. Any AER at all which would not be cool. Probably need a separate cube for each set.

More later ...

I have created the Cubes for ORI and KLD and AER. As yet the AER Set is not available to create a Cube so this will be on hold for a bit - update later. SD

Next Step.

AER Cube is there! So now it is time to create your sealed pool. Instructions as follows:-

viewtopic.php?f=38&t=17501&p=529160#p528847

Use this link above to access the 3 Cubes for ORI, KLD and AER.

In each Cube go to the Playtest Tab and select sealed.

For ORI generate your 3 random booster packs. Select Pack Size 15 and Packs 3. Then Hit Open Packs. Save the list of 45 ORI cards this provides (excel is best)

For KLD generate your 2 random booster packs. Select Pack Size 15 and Packs 2. Then Hit Open Packs. Save the list of 30 KLD cards this provides (excel is best)

For AER generate your 4 random booster packs. Select Pack Size 15 and Packs 4. Then Hit Open Packs. Save the list of 60 AER cards this provides (excel is best)

You now have a pool of 135 Cards from the ORI / KLD / AER block. Construct your 60 card decks and 15 card sideboard from these cards.

I plan for each player to make their full 135 card pool available. Save in an excel file and email to me (email to be sent via PM to each player).

For each match the 60 card deck and 15 card sideboard can remain secret until after match completes.

Between matches you can change the sideboard or even build a whole new deck and sideboard from the same 135 card pool.

Each player will be matched with a round robin for each other, depending on numbers participating we could play 2 matches per pairing (kind of like a home and away game).

I will post later how we handle those players who do not have a full pool for any set.

For now you should be able to generate your 135 card pool from the 3 cubes and build your first deck. You can play test it v AI or random versus as you choose.

Any queries - let me know. I will formalize this in a proper tournament thread with rules etc later on (soon).

SD

I've tried to see which cards I can get, as I see 2 ORI boosters don't do much good. Adding them to +1 KLD and +1 AER would do much better IMHO. It would give us chance to build better decks.

You get to build with all 135 cards from 9 boosters! 3 boosters from ORI, 2 from KLD and 4 from AER. With 30 KLD cards and 60 AER cards it should prove enough.

Don't forget too that you can add as many basic lands as you want to completed deck. Special lands have to be in your pool.

The intention is to have good AER decks with KLD card support and the ORI cards can help to fill out but also if lucky enough land one of the original 5 ORI Planeswalkers etc.

Altashheth I received your lists via pm. Hopefully the others can do likewise. From your list you can devise your 60 card deck and sideboard. You have some nice cards in the list so it will be interesting to see what you build, in particular with the AER cards.

I will get the tournament thread up soon and put out some ideas in the next topic for how people who want to join but do not have a full set for any can still do that.

Suggestions on handling a non full set for participants.

Ideally most if not all participants will benefit from already having a full pool, however to try and make it possible for others who want to join but may not have a full set for any of the ORI, KLD, AER I propose following:-

Players still draw as instructed from cube to initially get their list of cards according to random boosters for each set.

If they do not possess in their collection a card then they can substitute for one they do have with following restrictions:-

card must be from the same set being replaced (ORI, KLD, AER)

card must be of the same color as the one being replaced

card should have the same casting cost (converted mana) as the one being replaced

card should be of the same type (Creature, Sorcery, Instant, Enchantment) as the one being replaced

Any non basic land can be replaced with any non basic land that is owned.

At the end of the day the replacements are for the pool of 135 cards, a deck of 60 cards and 15 card sideboard still has to be created.

If there are special cases that do not fit I will be the final judge to allow / disallow the card in a users 135 cards

This should therefore not either penalize unduly or give any advantage to anyone who does not have a full set.
