Before previews for Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms officially begin, I thought it would be fun to do another of my Duelist-style teasers where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I’m only giving you partial information.

First up, here are some things you can expect:

• a new enchantment subtype
[class]

• a card granting -11/-11
[Eyes of the Beholder]

• a creature with a death trigger that make an equipment token
[Icingdeath, Frost Tyrant]

• a legendary creature that makes a legendary Hamster creature token
[Minsc, Beloved Ranger]

• something only seen previously in Un-sets comes to black border
[dice]

• an artifact that’s a musical instrument that creates harmony counters
[Instrument of the Bards]

• a card that can keep your opponent from winning the game
[The Book of Exalted Deeds]

• an ability that cares about attacking with a certain amount of power of creatures
[Pack Tactics]

• cards that let you decide where the story goes

• a card that creates a legendary creature token named Vecna
[The Book of Vile Darkness]

Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:

• “Enchanted permanent is a Treasure artifact”
[Minimus Containment]

• “Ward – discard a card.”
[West Gate Regent]

• “Exchange your hand and library”
[Mordenkainen]

• “Skeletons, Vampires and Zombies”
[Deathpriest of Myrkul]

• “Spend this mana only to cast Dragon spells or activate abilities of Dragons.”
[Orb of Dragonkind]

• “for each different mana value among nonland cards in your graveyard.”
[Sudden Insight]

• “Then if you have fewer than three cards in hand, draw cards equal to the difference.”
[Iymrith, Desert Doom]

• “Whenever you cast a creature spell that doesn’t share a creature type with a creature you control or a creature card in your graveyard,”
[Volo, Guide to Monsters]

• “You may cast [THIS CREATURE’S NAME] from your graveyard if a creature not named [THIS CREATURE’S NAME] died this turn.”
[Ebondeath, Dracolich]

• “When its power become 20 this way,”
[Inferno of the Star Mounts]

Finally, here are some card type lines in the set:

• Creature – Dwarf Citizen
[Skullport Merchant]

• Creature – Tiefling Wizard
[Eccentric Apprentice]

• Creature – Human Elf Monk
[Half-Elf Monk]

• Creature – Elf Spider
[Drider]

• Creature – Gnome Warlock
[Feywild Trickster]

• Creature – Halfling Rogue
[Lightfoot Rogue]

• Creature – Bird Bear
[Owlbear]

• Legendary Creature – Dragon Knight
[Nadaar, Selfless Paladin]

• Legendary Creature – Devil God

• Legendary Creature – Beholder

Can anyone think of the significance of 11 in forgotten realms?

Part of me hopes that the creature -> equipment is dragon scale armor but just from a game flow point of view a large creature leaving behind something that boosts toughness seems unlikely. Is there any iconic equipment made from monsters that would be more destructive / evasive?

Is the dragon knight just going to be dragonborn or is there a full dragon that could be a knight?

I don't know Forgotten Realms characters as much but the dragonborn paladin is a very 4e thing, where dragonborn were presented as a very Arab-inspired culture that is very devoted to Bahamut.

I suspect that it's a DnD spell rather than a FR-specific thing. Perhaps Finger of Death (as we already have Power Word Kill).

Is the dragon knight just going to be dragonborn or is there a full dragon that could be a knight?

Wel, we've seen now that the Dragonborn are typed Dragon.

The Dragonborn we saw today is also literally the Legendary Dragon Knight from the clue, so that answers the question directly.

So we now have Tiefling, Halfling, and I think Gnome as confirmed new individual creature types. Also Bird Bear has to be an Owlbear

Gnome already existed for a long time.
I'm much more conflicted over halfling and tiefling. Kithkin and Azra are obscure, but fill that exact role, so I'm really bothered by the attempt to make Azra a thing.

I see that Minsk is here. Go for the eyes, Boo!

Also, interested in who in the Realms gets "Devil God". Maybe Bane? I'm just hopeful for Bane.

It looks like half elves are "human elf". It makes sense but wasn't the case before, for one thing it is hard to put "Legendary Creature — Human Elf Warrior" on the type line.

Hoping for the bard type finally.

Anyone care to speculate on the new enchantment subtype. Currently my prediction is something like "Oath" or "Pact". They might try to do something with "Background" not that that would make much sense.

Most likely an aura, as Curses, Runes, and Cartouches were all new subtypes that only worked with Aura.

Maybe something like the following?

Oath of Vengeance
Enchantment - Aura Path
(A creature may only be enchanted with one Path at a time).
Enchant a Knight creature you control.
Whenever enchanted creature is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to another target.

There've been mentioned cards that represent the different classes, so it's probably that. Like a Barbarian Class card with the Class subtype.

Aren't those all the various cards like Gloom Stalker, Circle of Dreams Druid, Devotion Paladin, Valor Bard, etc?

I think maybe the hint Neru was referring to was a commander decklist shown earlier this week that listed (but didn't reveal) a card named Barbarian Class, so we knew there'd be a more direct representation of the classes.

That Instrument of the Bards looks super not fun to me.

Also it is a little strange that both red and blue get floating skull mythics and only the red one flies. The blue one has a lot of text and isn't made for combat so it doesn't really need flying but it still feels strange.

The Deck of Many Things seems so disgustingly swingy that I imagine a lot of players will rage quit when the user rolls a 20 with an empty hand and basically reanimates a creature they don't own and then win the game. EDIT: And now I just saw Barbarian Class on another site (not sure how authentic it is), but now I'm just shaking my head.
