Lore, flavor, and art wise I like the Gate and Bore paths more than the Channel and Step.

I can't really say I'm feeling the pathway cycle from a flavor perspective. Zendikar did it a bit better, given that they also have a radical landscape to help support the concept a bit more, but for the most part the cycle doesn't fit my mental model of what these lands represent, which is basically a fork in the road. "Turn right for necrotic death swamp or left for volcano magma hell" is like going into Un'Goro crater from Tanaris. And maybe that's not what they are, maybe they're just radically different locations with superficial similarities, but that's not what I'm naturally inclined to interpret them as.
