I'm not amazingly a fan of Companion -- this one in particular seems pretty crippling. The ETB is good, but I don't see myself utterly forsaking 1s and 2s to tutor it for free. Most of them are probably pretty similar in terms of the Companion ability being awesome but impractical.

In terms of draft, I think this Companion requirement is slightly more feasible than I thought it was because of cycling, but any aggro in IKO and this won't work. I guess you can always reconfigure your deck and flip it down or maindeck it when sideboarding.

You build a deck that makes it hard to cast multiple cards a turn and your payoff is an extra card you can cast as if it was in your hand that makes you draw more cards. Is there anything good to play with this that lets you discard cards for value?

Skirge Familiar comes to mind.

It's not bad with split cards now that they no longer count for every cmc.
Those aren't permanents though, although you could use adventures.

Force of Will/Vigor/Negation lets you discard for value.
