lol, what a weird card. I agree that it needed to be banned in commander, but I'm also glad it exists for the possibility of enabling a competitive singleton deck in standard. That would be really cool.

No kidding banned in commander, though technically Companion already didn't work (Wishes don't without playgroup preapproval since there's no sideboard)

I like that the Companions could be pulled off in Draft. The even one would be rough but this one is easy.

They specifically mentioned in the mechanics article that companion will work in commander. Probably as a special exception to that rule.

I really wish it had a real deckbuilding challenge like "Two or fewer creatures" or something so it wouldn't need to be banned.

I'm sure the judges just love that deck checks have been made more complicated.

So if I'm playing Standard or whatever and I have 4 Lutri in my sideboard, I can play up each of them once? Seems interesting.

Pretty sure you can only companion once, period.

This is correct. From the mechanics article:
Quote:
You can have up to one chosen companion for each game. That chosen companion doesn't start in your main deck. Rather, it's a card in your sideboard.

Ah, got it. I guess that can be inferred from the reminder text.

This seems so strange to me. Your commander does what companion does. You can't have 2 companions so why go out of their way to let people have a commander and a companion? If people want to start the game with access to one of these companion creatures that they can cast out of a special zone they can do that, by choosing them as their commander.
:thbbbt: (I'm just a humbug who doesn't like powerful cards)

It may help to note that once a companion leaves the sideboard, that’s it. It’s now just part of the deck until game ends. You can’t recast it or anything from that zone. I’m split on if I think they shouldn’t have been legendary so they couldn’t have just been commanders.
