I’m still not a fan of using other sapient races for Non-Human stuff but at least Goblins make sense as closer to that step between wild animal and sapient beings than fricking Elves

If that's not a trustworthy smile then I've never seen one.
I could see the flavour in this instance being a human civilization vs magical wilderness thing. In fairy tales, especially British ones, everything outside society's walls is trying to get you.

Yeah, the ebook specifically has a notion of the Realm (Arthurian knights part of the world) versus the Wilds (the Grimm faerie tale part of the world). I think non-Human tribal is trying to evoke that "wilds" faction. (Even though ironically it also helps Knight tokens.)
