This mechanic looks great for Limited. Order of Midnight is especially strong.

It's unfortunate that Curry Favor can't count Smitten Swordmaster, but it's also very cheap to fit into a curve.

The black storybook frame looks super good btw; it's much more subtle than the green.

I think you're confusing the normal adventure frames with the promo ones. Here's what the normal green frame will look like:

I meant the black premium frame looks better than the green premium frame. Which I recognize is confusing because the black premium one isn't shown in this thread.

I'm rather happy with this mechanic so far.

This mechanic looks like it is going to be a fan favorite. Everyone loves recursion and alternate costs and this looks super smooth to play.

I like that the frame isn't the headache-inducing Aftermath frame.

I have mixed feelings. these cards are cool (Order of Midnight feels like a first pick uncommon to boot)... but I'm kind of tired of "Everything is also a creature."

I remember when having a spell effect on a creature was weird and special enough to get its own nickname with the 187 abilities, the first "Enters the battlefield, does something cool and spell-like" trick. Naturally, that caught on like wildfire, but it means I also remember Legions IMO Magic's worst set because it reduced everything to creatures.

I want to see more cool noncreature artifacts and enchantments, and instants and sorceries that interact with the game in legitimately different ways. I don't think we lost all the design space for that sort of stuff, I just think we're losing the will to use it.

Man, the adventure mechanic really exceeds everything we set out to do in Starstill.

Also shield breaker be pretty. Hope that art shows up on some packaging or something.

*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

I am super happy that they aren't trying to put 2 different arts on one card. Also they are making names that stand on their own and don't have to be said together to sound good.
