I like that Food is getting at least one non-token card (and that it still has the normal life gain ability). I wonder if we'll ever get a non-token Treasure.

People are speculating based on the cards seen so far that Food will be a resource like energy that various cards use in different ways, with the life gain being a fallback use. I wonder how true that will be once we see more commons. I do like that idea, since the inherent life gain ability is so weak.

Oh hey Shrimp!

Food could be relevant in limited, but constructed decks don't have 2 mana to waste on 3 life. I suspect we'll see a handful of food-lovers for constructed, but most limited decks will just use it for lifegain.

*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

honestly I suspect most food generators will have a way to use the tokens, even in limited. like, I'm sure we'll have some raw food generation, but I suspect things like Goose will be the norm.

I mean, if white can get lone missionary and similar cards at common and be fine I would guess they could just be pretty generous with food generators and not give outlets.
A 2/1 flyer(or even 2/2) for 2 that gives a food token is somewhat decent in constructed for example.

So far we have one Food producer in each rarity. The common doesn't use Food, but the others all do.

If we include the Brawl cards, we have two more rares, one of which uses Food and one of which doesn't.

And then there's Witch's Cauldron, which hasn't been confirmed as a booster card or a brawl card. It doesn't use Food.

This is a small sample size, but considering we've also seen cards that animate artifacts or sacrifice permanents, I think we'll have plenty of uses for Food besides just gaining life.
