Phenax, God of Deception 3UB

Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M)

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to blue and black is less than seven, Phenax isn't a creature.

Creatures you control have "T: Target player puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is this creature's toughness."

4/7

I was totally excited for this god based on his art and color combination only to find out that A) He mills (Of course he does.) and B) He's pretty terrible.

I think he might end up surprising a lot of people. Remember, a lot of us thought Erebos was horrible and look at him now.

Well... at least the artwork is great...

I was one of the people that liked Erebos from the start though. :( The only thing I've found neat is he could get silly with things like Tree of Redemption and Lord of Extinction type cards. The kind of decks where he'll probably never get enough devotion to be a creature.

I don't know what, but this guy smells like he has a lot of potential. More than the GW and RB Gods, for sure. And what'd you expect from a UB mythic nowadays? They ALL mill nowadays. I would have really liked to see something that would let you draw cards based on how many cards your opponents discarded the previous turn. That would have been cool.
But golly gee is that art sick.

But none can compare to the mighty Goat God.

yay it mills!

Maybe if no one plays it it could become cheap enough for me to get some on mtgo. I now know that this card is the only one I want to build a standard deck around. Wall of Frost here I come! Unfortunately it is in the strongest 2 devotion colors so maybe it'll see play.

Also this is by far the most broken god in limited. Seems kinda unbeatable tbh

Yeah, definitely unbeatable in limited.

So... this guy makes Opportunity even better. I'm not sure what isn't to love about that.

Dreaded milling walls. Actually this is totally absurd with consuming abberation. And against creature decks there wight and nighthowler.

T2 breaking (8)
T3 wall of frost
T4 psychic strike / grisly spectacle
T5 consuming abberation (9 ish)
T6 phenax mill to a land (3), mill 12 for abberation, 7 for wall (30 cards milled)
T7 mill 30

Traumatize t5 followed by unanswered jace, memory adept is 8 turns.

The first card I thought of with this card is Frostburn Weird. Brings the blocks, beats, and mills.

God I love Frostburn Weird is does everything.

this is gonna be dumb with consuming aberration.

whenever your opponent sacs to tap desecration demon, you can just tap him with this in response

After sleeping on it I'm quite a bit less annoyed with this guy. Still sucks that he just mills when he could do so much more as the god of deceit but this guy can be a really good Inspire enabler.

With the help of Triton Tactics, he can trigger his ability two inspired creatures twice, the second time getting additional mill out of them, and get a full inspired trigger on each during the turn, and prepare for your next untap phase as well.

Nope, you can't do that. Your opponent doesn't get the choice to sacrifice until the triggered ability starts resolving, by which point it is too late to respond.

So. I've been reading spoilered cards. And..... I don't understand why consuming aberration, a freaking obvious combo pick, hasn't been mentioned.

Every time you cast a card, aberration gets a little bigger. And each turn, that bigger toughness mills your opponent a little bit more. While not exactly tier one, its a fairly decent combo with some stall and protection.
