Not as good as Harrow which gives you the lands untapped, but at least you don't lose a land if this one gets countered. This or the new veggies (below) can help you meet Omnath's triple landfall condition

Aw, I've always loved how Harrow can ramp you for only one mana (net). I understand, though, if they don't want standard ramp to be that strong, especially given how pushed its been lately.

Vastwood Surge falls behind Migration Path in most formats, but in limited, having a finisher spell tied to your slow ramp could be very relevant.

Commander will prefer Vastwood Surge, since extra mana is still relevant when you're at 8, and you're likely to have creatures

In Standard I think the two are close, though eight mana is a bit much even if you already played another Surge earlier. It might be relevant for the BG +1/+1 counter theme
