Guess I should've read the ebook more quickly if I wanted to avoid spoilers. Oh well.

Seems weird for Garruk to get uncursed so quickly when the "cursed Garruk" arc was really never explored that deeply. And don't we have Vivien as a creature-focused green planeswalker now? I guess no one's really claimed Garruk's creature token niche, so there's that.

Anyway, this card is pretty strong. An instant speed Overrun (sans trample) will end a lot of games, and I like that the card is useful whether you're going tall or wide.

Okay, true, but it's not like Garruk did anything in those eight years. He got cursed in Innistrad, starred in a core set where he killed some redshirt planeswalkers, and then disappeared for five years.

I admit I haven't read the whole ebook yet, so I don't know how much of an arc he gets there, but I just personally feel like the planeswalker hunter character was more interesting than the hermit beastmaster one that we're getting back in exchange. I guess even with the curse gone, he still has a vendetta against Liliana, so that plot hook is still open.

From some summary I read recently it sounded like he was already hunting Liliana for sport when he got cursed so he might continue doing that kind of thing.
Apparently there was a video game that had some plot where Jace gets the protagonist to put a hedron inside of Garruk that suppresses the curse some, so you can add that to the list of things that happened in the "cursed Garruk" arc. It is a little strange that it is cannon but we have no description of the planeswalker who did it.

Garruk was never hunting Liliana for sport. He briefly hunted her because she killed one of his beasts, and then hunted her because she cursed him.

MTG Wiki wrote:
Having heard of a huge predatory creature called the Ursoth on the plane known as Shandalar, Garruk planeswalked there and hunted the Ursoth with the help of his summoned beasts.[6] When another planeswalker, by the name of Liliana Vess, killed one of his beasts he flew into a rage and tracked her down, assaulting her in an ancient Onakke temple. The ageless necromancer was initially over-powered by Garruk, forcing her to use the artifact known as the Chain Veil she'd been sent to claim from the temple. Using the Chain Veil, Liliana overpowered him with a surge of black magic that cursed him, warping his summoning powers and wracking his body.[7]

I misremembered the curse as happening on Innistrad rather than Shandalar. I guess he just tracked her to Innistrad after she cursed her. (In my defense, Garruk Relentless implies a different story, but we can set that aside.)

I always thought that Triumph of Ferocity and Triumph of Cruelty were the interaction that lead to her cursing him, but I can very clearly see now that he said he was already cursed by then.

It should be mentioned that time wise, he was cursed before even bloody Zendikar happened.

Also, nice to see my writing still remains on the wiki even after all this time.

I don't really get this card mechanically. Is it implying that he is "returning back to" Garruk Wildspeaker and Primal Hunter (**** Caller of Beasts I guess)?
and then he started hating humans even though he has nothing against the kenrith twins

He never really liked people iirc. This isn't really hating humans as much as just having an affinity for beasts and such

Garruk has always disliked people because his home village was harrassed by a warlord who tried taking young men-including Garruk-to be soldiers. And when Garruk's father tried to save Garruk by sending him into the wild, his father was killed. So yeah Garruk has always had some misanthropy going on. Doesn't change the fact that he himself is still a human so him doing the non-human boost is still funny. Especially since I genuinely can't imagine him getting along with, say, Merfolk or Elves or Dwarves any better.
