Also this puts a lid on Academy Rector and any problematic creatures with Persist if I'm understanding it right......and also the death trigger from Modular?

Also also, and I'm not sure why, but it specifically hits all five knights from M20.

Correct. Academy Rector will not search, persist creatures will not have their enter the battlefield triggers nor will persist bring them back, and modular creatures will not give any +1/+1 counters to anything.
