Sealock Monster
Breaching Hippocamp

I admit I really like the hippocamp when it was spoiled, and hey, combat tricks are combat tricks. But it needs flying, because a 3/2 for 4 is just meh.

Sealock seems like a poor man's shipbreaker kraken... and this set isn't crying out for double colored mana big dudes that can't usually attack.

Would I be unhappy to play of each? No, I think I'd be good. More than 1 though and I would feel funny.

Sealock Monster is a champ. I had the fortune of playing both at the Prerelease, and the Monster was either the best wall in my deck or the best creature in my deck, depending on who I was facing. A 5/5 for 5 is nothing to snort at, and green/blue can even give you an impromptu Island by Nylea's Presence without needing to go monstrous.

The Hippocamp is pretty much a dud. At 2 toughness it just can't survive against anything it would be blocking. The surprise-untapping is also very lackluster. Attacking into 4 open mana in the format has been suicide since day 1, and it's far more rare that the untap clause will be as effective as a 5/5 beast. Agreed that if the Hippocamp had flying it'd be great though.

5 mana is a lot for ANY wall... 7 mana to make it an actual creature an awful lot.

I do think the monster is pretty good in sealed. I did get a voyaging satyr killed by the hippocamp trying to sneak in a point of damage into an empty board. My bad, I guess.

Monster by like a zillion. I've never seen a winning deck run hippocamp. If only it could fly!

It's not even close for me. I'm always happy to play sealock monster. The hippocamp is pretty unimpressive. I sometimes play it as my 23rd card, but I'm rarely happy about it.

Yeah, OK< so I am underrating Sealock monster. Anyone want to come up with a blue card similar in power/cost that's a real decision?
