This was the prerelease weekend, and here is the report from the more interesting of my two drafts. It's interesting since it contains no crazy rares, and the format is new enough to generate some interesting discussion. There were quite a few picks I'm not at all sure about. That's all I'm going to say for now, in addition to posting the picks and the deck I built.

draft

2 x Mardu Hateblade

1 x Chief of the Scale
2 x Leaping Master
1 x Mardu Skullhunter
1 x Feat of Resistance
1 x Suspension Field
1 x Debilitating Injury

1 x Jeering Instigator
1 x Krumar Bond-Kin
1 x Mardu Hordechief
2 x Ponyback Brigade
1 x Witness of the Ages
1 x Kill Shot
1 x Mardu Charm

1 x Bellowing Saddlebrute
1 x Mardu Warshrieker
1 x Unyielding Krumar
1 x Bring Low

1 x Sultai Scavenger
1 x Arrow Storm

1 x Mystic Monastery
5 x Plains
6 x Swamp
5 x Mountain

As always, comments are welcome.

Your opponents took the fixing highly,I guess.

Is it possible for you to link those cards for people like me that don't have them memorized? No worries if not.

This looks like a mana train wreck to me. Which probably means you went 3-0. But I had a very similar problem when I drafted - ending up with 3 colors even and no fixing. At least once or twice you passed up the BR refuge ( I know removal!) , I don't think you can do that unless you are very heavy in 1 color. Here you are in trouble because your low drops are 3 color.

The only main deck change I would have made is Rush of Battle instead of Kill Shot or one of the Masters. You have enough Warriors that the life gain can turn a race into a one sided debacle, and the +2/+1 can push your smaller creatures through larger blockers. When I drafted my tempo Jeskai deck, Rush turned all my hard work into nothing and put me down where I had to play more defensively.

@ajunior: thanks, now I have a little program that does just that. Also, the post is edited, with links in the draft section.

@Zenbitz: yes, mana was tight a few times, but the format is new yet, and I was not punished for it. Also, all the morphs helped. I did have a Banner in the sideboard, but I didn't board it in. I went 2-1, mostly on experience. The loss was against an Abzan deck with double Archers' Parapet, lots of morphs, and Trail of Mystery.

@Tymestalker: that was the main dilemma: commit to the rush tactic, with Rush of Battle and Trumpet blast, or a more midrange plan, with the removal. In the end, I didn't think I had enough consistent early drops to try for the speed win. Two Ponyback Brigade are OK, but they don't hit early.

How good was Witness for you? I've yet to play it or see it played.

Nothing special, just another Morph. I've seen it played a few times now, and it's solid, but not impressive. Its biggest plus is that you can't get color-screwed with it.

@Zlet: Trumpet Blast is more of a token/rush tactic. Rush can actually be used in the mid-range too due to the lifelink. Azban uses it pretty well too. I just wish it was an instant like Sanctified Charge, but what can you do?
