So first off, this was probably the most fun in Limited I've had since Modern Masters. There is a lot of synergy, Conspiracies and really fun, everyone gets to play powerful cards, etc. For example, one of the guys in my round 1 match had the card that lets you tap your lands for any mana, and then he drafted
Cogwork Grinder, turning it into a 13/13 guy by exiling cards he didn't want out of his card pool, thus fielding his entire pool of super powerful cards. He also had 2
Edric, Spymaster of Trest in his pool, so he was basically getting a crapton of cards too.
How did I beat him? I eschewed gimmicks and played tight, of course. I belt a semi-control deck that gave me some reach by using
Brago, King Eternal to gain a lot of life off a
Peace Strider or cards from my graveyard with
Custodi Squire. The ALLSTAR though was
Rout, allowing me to punish other players for overreaching while I held back and made myself look like a weak target. Play the people, not the cards, you know?
Here it be. My
Aether Searcher let me cast my
Mortify for free. My
Cogwork Grinder was a 15/15

SwampMy three opponents were the Guy Who Could Cast Everything, this bad Izzet deck that was more like a one-on-one draft deck. Red is not very good in the format, and this guy was "politicking" by kinda going after me but also spreading the damage around. You don't play multiplayer by pissing off everyone in the game, so he died fairly quickly. The other deck was a badass golgari deck that could draw an additional 4 cards by turn 2. I think it could've won the draft, but the guy decked himself both games drawing so many cards, and I was able to cast
Rout twice.
We wanted to keep playing, so the Golgari deck guy and I played the last man standing of the other half of the draft, who was piloting an Orxhov deck focused on cheap flyers and Morbid triggers, and had a couple of sweepers. Golgari got off to a bad start and really suffered from all the wraths we played, and eventually died again because he decked himself. Orzhov guy's deck was OK but fairly straight forward, and he seemed to be antagonizing the Golgari player more than me, so I was eventually able to land my
Cogwork Grinder and beat his face.
Now, I have the Golgari deck on hand, see if you can find the combo that lets them draw 4 cards on turn 2:
