I a cube about a year ago. I didn't expect much, but it played even worse than that. So, I started really getting into the theory of it all, crafting archetypes, tracking curves, and so on. Now I have a cube I really like. It's a mostly Modern cube with the average card being a high pick limited card. Not too much bomby brilliance, only a few planeswalkers, about 4 or so duallands per color pair with all the Signets. Anyway, it hasn't been used much of late, so let's do a community draft with it! (I don't have the cube typed up online yet, so if you have any questions about why I added certain cards, let me know.)

The current pack will always have it's own post as well as linger in the OP. I'll update picks into a deck spoiler below. I'm aiming for two packs a day, but that's not a certainty. We'll just base it on participation. Bold your picks to make things easier on me. If you'd like to view the cube, here it is.

Deck

p2p5
Golgari Grave-Troll
Consume the Meek
Chromatic Drake
Dark Hatchling
Switcheroo
Distortion Strike
Rakdos Cackler
Alive // Well
Supreme Verdict
Blood Crypt
Yavimaya Coast

Protean Hydra seems like a good first pick. Powerful and splashable.

Hydra doesn't actually seem that strong. Its upside over a vanilla :x: :g: x/x seems to be "gets bigger when you chump it", which is pretty marginal. I'd rather take ulvenwald tracker, conquering manticore, or briarpack alpha. I think I'll go with the manticore, because greed seems pretty deep this pack and signaling is good.

Without knowing anything about the cube I'd take Fight Bear (Ulvenwald Tracker) or Stormtide Leviathan.

Speaking of which, Rush, do you want us to go in blind for the cube or can we have a list to kinda get a feel for what you're doing?

How's pristine angel? Never got a chance to play with her.

Manticore can go from good to bunker with enough sac outlets.

When I get time, I'll put the full list up. It just seems tedious. :P

I for one don't mind drafting cubes blind.

I'd probably pick Manticore out of this pack, as well. It's always been pretty bomby, and it cuts red from this pack.

Who/what are we drafting against? Or is this a turing test, too?

Right now we have 3 for Manticore, 1 for Tracker, and a bunch of unclear posts that don't actually seem to be picks. :P

Then I won't rush (har har) putting the Cube up. I still intend to, though.

8 man draft, I'll be drafting for the other players.

You should have the other boards pick cards :3

I voted for the hydra.

So, no opinions on the angel? It's usually immune to sorcery removal, is an awesome blocker, has evasion, pseudo vigilance and can nullify removal if you have instants of your own.

Not the most impressive body at 4/4 for 6 though, so I'm looking for feedback from people who played with it before.

Compared to manticore, the manticore has a bigger body, but no protection. The threaten effect is decent on its own and amazing with a sac outlet, but we have no idea if there are sac outlets and how many/how good they are. It also depends how bomby creatures are (it was pretty awesome in RoE because you could steal eldrazi!) From this pack, they do seem pretty bomby, so manticore may have a lot of potential.

I always thought Angel was really good. Very tough to kill and you can sometimes nab a few of their kill spells with tricky plays.

Heh. That might be the best idea ever. I'll do some investigating and see if there are 7 other forums active enough to make that work. MTGS, certainly. WOTC... maybe.

I mean you don't need all seven, you can do the rest. I think having to keep track of 7 forums might be...annoying.

I'm really good at juggling. Not Dudibus good, but good.

I'm good at juggling as well, as long as it's two balls or less.

Who am I kidding, I can't juggle two balls.

Um... yeah, I'll go for the angel because I like my bombs to be hard to kill and play both on offense and defense. Also, I don't know how many sac outlets are in the format.
