So i just finished a major project at work so have the day off. The wife and baby are away as well so I am going to settle down to a BTT draft marathon. I obviously won't post everything that goes on but tough choices, great plays (unlikely) and misplays (more likely) will get posted.

Here's Q1.

Draft 1 - first pick Ephara - guess that's pretty determinitive into Skyguard is a good start but then P1p3 - Vanguard, Glimpse of the Sun or Nyxborn Triton?

P3p3 of the same draft: Phalanx Leader or Wingsteed Rider (foil)?

BTW - I ended up having got a late Mischeif and Mayhem and then opened up Polukranos

So the first draft finised 2-1.

The lesson I learned (pun intended) is that Warrior's Lesson is a fantastic card. I would often play 2 drop, Mistcutter Hydra for 1 on turn 3 and draw 2 cards. The Mistcutter then tended to get a lot bigger with all the various pump.

Is this the most ridiculous set of picks in pack 1 ever?
2 Loyal Pegaus
Hero of Iroas
Spirit of the Labryinth
4 (yes 4) Elite Skirmishers
Divination
Nyxborn Triton
Archetype of Imagination

Glimpse over vanguard or triton.
"Accidentally" stick phalanx leader and wingsteed together and take both?

I guess... Depends on the number of cavalry pegasi I have. Or curve. Eh, wingsteed is a much better topdeck, and actually easier to cast. And phalanx leader / pK seems really hard to cast.

Did you splash blue for ephara as well?

I don't understand. These are everyone's P1P1? 11 person pod?

After taking the god and a skyguard, I wouldn't be against taking Glimpse. Vanguard V. Glimpse is probably the contest there, but there are other chances to get good guys. If you value enables/finisher spells over the heroic dudes, then you take Glimpse. Triton isn't a strong signal this early in the draft.

That's what he ended up with in Pack 1, I assume. It is okay, nothing is really all that bomby and there were a number of cards you could probably have taken otherwise, but it is hard to say without knowing the other picks.

Loyal Pegasus isn't terrible, but not great. If you got them late in the pack you're fine, but don't fall into the trap of taking them too early. Unless you're going for the gimmick deck of 6+ Pegasus.

Duh. I get it now. Did you name your deck "dies to scouring sands"?

I mean, considering nobody cares about that card, I think it is an acceptable weakness.

I didn't splash blue for the God.

The rest of the marathon went okay but nothing special. I ended up 7-5 after 4 drafts having played , , and twice (yes there is a common theme here) one of the times I splash Red for Amax and Cyande.

That was the most sustained drafting I have done and I learnt a few lessons, which you lot may already know but I will pass them on.

- 2 power creatures are really not worth a lot in his format. There is so much 3 toughness that without help they just bounce off things.
- It is often worth playing Hopeful Eidelon on turn 1 if you have a number of 2 CMC enchantments. My Eideon got in for 8 damage one game.
- Anything that costs 7 mana isn't worth playing unless you are black based control
- Observant Eidelon and any inspired creature is not a good combo! (oops)
- Hero of Iraos is absurd. One game I just enchanted him up with Aqueous Form, Fate Foretold and Observant Eidelon (for a total of 6 mana) and had a 7/7 unblockable, vigilant beater.
- Stormbreath Dragon is just gg. I lost to this card 4 times over the course of the day.

So my rating took a bit of a pounding but I had great fun.

BW is really solid. One of my favorite archtypes.

And yeah, Mythics usually win games on their own.
