I think Retraction Helix is one of the best Commons in the set, and Blue is very strong in the format.

No bombs here, so I vote for the excellent removal that dismantles Voltrons, kills gods, and frustrates gravediggers. My next pick would be the Tromper, and then, the white Arena Athlete on steroids.

How to draft theros block: pick the highest rarity card with the word "bestow" on it. In this case, that card is Nyxborn Triton.

I can't really find a reason to disagree with this. I think the triton is going to be good.

I think Gorgon's Head will be a powerful, underrated card from botg. That's my pick.

Maybe its just me, but a lot of these cards seem really powerful.

No, if it is underrated, it is better than people say. If it is OVERrated, then it isn't as good as people say.

Right so... overrating a card would be picking it too highly.. underrating a card would be not picking it early enough.
If other people underrate a card, they will NOT pick it early. So we can value pick it late. You cannot rate a card more highly than P1P1ing it. So by definition, if we first pick it no one can value it more than us.

Since this is P1P1 it's totally irrelevant how other people value it (since no one else has seen it), unless it's so underrated that it wheels.

TL;DL. You think it's good. I think it's good. Nothing else in this pack seems 1st pickable. Maybe people ON THIS BOARD are underrating it? That would make sense.

My first choice would be Nyxborn Triton. A decent body in this pack for a 2/3 with Bestow. But if I had to, Gorgon's Head would be my second choice.

So, what happened to BREAD? Or are you guys saying that the Triton is a bomb? Or the Head? Maybe Head could be regarded as removal or evasion, but Triton is a vanilla, for god's sake.

I haven't heard BEARD or STAR in regards to drafting in a long time.

They're useful rules of thumb when first starting draft, but not hard rules.

And Bestow is far from vanilla.

I would rather have Revoke over triton. Triton is solid - but it's no Nimbus Naiad. It's not even Leafcrown Dryad. It seems about exactly as good as spearpoint oread or observant alseid. Which are 2.5-3 not something I want to first pick.

Why?

If the other option is an equipment that cost 2 to equip and does not make the creature harder to kill(or provides a good power boost) I'll switch to the triton.
